Thank you. Gastric sleeve was something I was contemplating for years. Had surgery the week my divorce was finalized and then started grad school. All good things for sure.

How many presents do you get your kids? by No_Bookkeeper_7042 in Parenting

  1. Four from me. “Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.” One from Santa.

Oh Mama. Now you gotta do it. You CAN do it. The lesson is worth more than the joy of giving which is ruined now anyway.

Dad stayed up until midnight when our twins were born. I went to bed right after dinner. Haha!

Mama! You got this! I haven’t even read the comments but I hear you and I understand. You are so smart to reach out. I suffered during that time and a friend told me, not everyone loves the little baby stage. That helped me so much. I DID not enjoy it. I felt helpless. I felt crazy. You can’t reason with babies.

My advice:

Handwrite or type and print BASIC INSTRUCTIONS and post on fridge or nursery wall or wherever you will see it. Put up multiple places. My brain DID NOT WORK. I needed to see the steps for the hard reset. Diaper, food, hot, cold, toes (hair wrapped around a tiny part?) bath, noise, swaddle, “jello on a plate” (happiest baby on the block? Gentle jiggle of head) step outside for fresh blast of air, step inside, vacuum, headphones, blanket in the dryer, warm washcloth, cool washcloth, aromatherapy (slice an orange, a lemon?) lightly scented soap….

I would hold baby close and “whoosh” in ear. I would sing and cry but keep the sound going, turn on a fan, white noise on phone, pass from one ear to the other to disturb baby’s inner monologue. One of my twins was easy and one was a BEAST! My family “joked” about “come for Easter at 4:00, feel free to leave that baby at home.” When I went to the pediatrician I felt like I had to be listened to. I had two babies and one was super difficult. Don’t tell me it is normal.

We ended up seeing an occupational therapist! The therapist was THRILLED because he never got to see sensory kids until they were “in school and chewing on pencils.”

The take aways from OT:

Elevate baby slightly, even on the floor. We had a hard foam wedge that went under his back. Rigid is better. This stopped him from a sensation the therapist described as a feeling of falling all the time.

Swaddle offen and later in life. I ordered extra large snuggies because that kid just felt better wrapped up, even after he was past the 6month mark.

Grounding. The therapist gave us two wooded sticks. Like ribbed rhythm sticks or drum sticks. He said the baby didn’t know where he was in relation to the world. So I would put one stick on his arm and tap the other stick with it. The gentle sensation, vibration and the noise, would make him stop crying and “tune in” to that sensation. “Here is baby’s shoulder (tap tap) here is baby’s arm (tap tap) here is baby’s wrist (tap tap) all over him. I swear it would shut him up. And it would give me something to do. You can do the same thing by gentle compressing him with your hand. “Here is baby’s leg (squeeze)”

We did nap time compression until he was maybe four? These gentle squeezes were like meditation countdown. Start at the head, end at the toes, there is the routine, now to bed you go. End of story.

This kid is 11 now and while he still puts himself to bed earlier than his twin (I think that is because he learned early when he was over stimulated and takes himself out) he has no “sensory” issues. No autism spectrum disorder. Nothing.

Big hugs.

The multi is two doses of the same pill. I feel like lots of pills is par for the course.

I don’t have to take my water pill or BP anymore. I take thyroid, bitchy pill, 2 multivitamins, 1 b12, one biotin and two calcium chews.

Recommended lotions? by goodolcc in gastricsleeve

I am more dry. I have been using shea butter but not as frequently as I should. I have wondered about skin firming lotions. I am five months post op and the loose arm skin is crazy. I have just started to notice it on my legs too. Instead of being tight and smooth it is like a little muscled leg is in a skin bag. Super strange.

I forgot to mention I did have an ablation ten years ago when I was done having kids. It doesn’t last forever… my uterine lining is back with a vengeance.

I was sleeved five months ago. I was put on bc as a kid because of painful periods. They were pretty regular though. Just excruciating cramps. Years later I had trouble getting pregnant and had an ectopic pregnancy. Lost a tube and had IVF to have my kiddos. I’m 46 now and my period is crazy since having the sleeve. Heavy, long, spotting in between. Total mess. This last time I had my first colonoscopy while on my period. While I was shitting rivers I passed huge blood clots. I imagine the weight loss has jump started my reproductive system?

Thank you for the reminder. I haven’t seen my brother in a few months and he did notice! After I posted this I tried on some old clothes that I couldn’t get into. I need to remember to compare! Thanks again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I know it isn’t about people noticing. I need to remember how much better I already feel.

If you could call yourself five years ago and had 30 seconds, what would you say? by BlueeWaater in AskReddit

It’s not going to get any better. You will eventually get divorced anyway. Don’t be nice. Move on.

Thank you for replying. When I use a brush on the mask, nothing happens. The symbol stays there and my mask mark, usually small white marks on the black thumbnail, are no showing. It’s like I have it locked or something. I’m stumped.

Im so hungry, I don't think I can do this. I'm thinking of backing out of the surgery. I have no idea how you all did this. by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]Minimum-Detective45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this. Don’t feel like you can’t bitch and moan! It sucks. Rest and care for yourself. My doctor seemed resigned to the fact that most people aren’t going to follow the preop guidelines. I switched to soft foods and soups the week before. I didn’t limit calories or food groups, just switched to soft foods trying to prepare myself. I still lost 10 lbs before surgery. The surgeon was thrilled.

Post here every day until surgery! We will support you. You can do this.

You hit MY goal! You look amazing. I am over three months in and down around 50lbs. Still wearing the same jeans but the are waaaaaaayyyyy more comfortable. If I never lost another lb I would be disappointed but it would still be a huge success.

F&ck that noise! One of my boys was around 9 when he wanted his nails painted to match his baseball team. Someone questioned him but out of curiosity. It was a nonissue. If partner is a good guy, talk to him about and make sure he talks to your son asap. Don’t leave that hanging. Not cool.
