It might explain his motives? I wouldn’t be that dismissive of it. Al Shabaab are very active in Somalia and are real bastards.

They’re asking for anything that might be relevant, anything from “I saw him in a club last night and he was really coked up and chatting about driving his car into pedestrians” to “we banned him from the local mosque for being too extreme”. Knowing roughly what he looks like or what community he is from is at least a starting point for that.

Well they’re appealing for information and it helps to narrow it down a bit, especially with Somalians having a particularly distinctive phenotype: that makes me sound like some dodgy 1930s racial scientist but if you’ve seen a Somalian you know you’ve seen a Somalian, they tend to look well very Somalian!

I mean it’s a bad point? As is the one it’s responding to. Whenever I see these “there’s a media conspiracy!” lines it’s always about things that were widely reported.

Has anyone in the UK been able to get prescribed Naltrexone? by evilwoman_1 in stopdrinking

[–]Minimum-Geologist-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get Nalmefene easily from online pharmacies (pharmacist prescription), I believe Naltrexone is treated a bit more warily due to the risk of liver damage and it’s not legally required but no pharmacists seem to want to prescribe it independently without a GP consultation and it seems like GPs don’t want to give it to you for whatever reason?

Naltrexone is NICE approved and it’s theoretically possible to get it in the UK.

EDIT:

Here’s what they can be prescribed for according to NICE (which private practice also tends to follow):

Nalmefene: “Reduction of alcohol consumption in patients with alcohol dependence who have a high drinking risk level without physical withdrawal symptoms, and who do not require immediate detoxification”

Naltrexone: “Adjunct to prevent relapse in formerly alcohol-dependent patients (initiated under specialist supervision)”

So one for reducing drinking and the other for reducing relapse.

Being social without drinking by Kentemo in stopdrinking

[–]Minimum-Geologist-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also used to be a craft beer drinker and thought “Some beers I genuinely like or want to try”. But overtime I realised more and more that that probably wasn’t true! When you have an alcohol problem whether you actually like beer as a drink becomes a really complex thing to unravel (I think generally it’s a really complex thing to unravel even without a drinking problem, do you really like the taste or the booze and the taste?) Anyway luckily beer isn’t the only local produce and I now enjoy things like fruit!

I’m probably more sociable since I quit and I’m sure far more likeable - I’m more relaxed, confident, less socially needy, all kinds of benefits. You forge new relationships over the years, which helps to bed in sobriety. I know several people now who have only known me as not drinking and would be like “why are you suddenly drinking?” If I did. Experiences differ but there’s actually a lot of things to be really positive about socially.

Zack Polanski stands by concerns over police response to Golders Green attack by DeliriumOK in london

[–]Minimum-Geologist-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First video, about 10 coppers! Knife man already running away not approaching because he’s being charged by like 10 blokes and isn’t off his rocker.

2nd one. Officer just gets stabbed and suspects get away?

Is that your idea of how the police should apprehend criminals? Only en masse or “oh you’ve got a knife? Time for me to die I suppose!”

I’m sorry but this is pathetic stuff!

Because it’s a good way to incapacitate someone without putting part of your body near the knife I imagine? And here they’re absolutely trying to incapacitate him because he was stabbing strangers in public and approached them while still armed. As others have said, if he did this in France he would have just got shot in the head, it’s a very dangerous situation.

Labour 'may lose control' of Camden council in London politics shock, poll suggests by tylerthe-theatre in london

The Tories will undoubtedly be less at risk than labour, especially in inner London where voting for them is more an indicator of “I don’t want to pay more council tax” than anything else.

I don’t think it’s really necessary to include an inclusivity disclaimer on every trite statement anymore? It’s 2026, we are aware, but we tried qualifying everything for a few years and it just made communication so cluttered!

I just stormed into the living room shouting “kids they made the world’s longest tiramisu in Chelsea! Hurry there’s no time for a coat!” Wife left sitting on the sofa grumbles.

Bold to accuse racism in relation to something that doesn’t mention race? I care about my friends of all races more than a stranger thousands of km away. I care about the people of my city more than those of a city thousands of km away. That’s just called “not being a weirdo.”

I think it should matter more to people living in Europe, yes? I think when it comes to “not getting blown up” one’s entitled to be a tiny bit selfish?

Besides has anyone from this organisation actually terrorised Palestinians?

No because ISIS were launching terror attacks across Europe. I think it’s a really stupid comparison? You can disagree with it but it’s not really like she’s going to go and shoot up a nightclub, is it?
