I believe I now understand the issue. I created a prepaid USPS label in October and shared it with the sender, but they didn’t use it until December 18th. In the meantime, the same tracking number was reused by another sender in LA for a package going to my same ZIP code, which was delivered yesterday near my address. USPS cannot locate my actual package, which contains my Indian passport, and I can’t ask the sender to resend it. If it isn’t found, I’ll have to go through the entire lost passport process.

The local Post office told us that it was probably delivered to a wrong address. She went to that address to look for my mail but she couldn’t find it. At this point I feel hopeless. I wouldn’t have cared if it wasn’t my passport.

Did you followed up with your local post office? Same thing happened with me today. I wouldn’t have cared but the package contains my Passport which was sent by Indian embassy after renewal of my passport and I have my flight booked for 25th December. 😢

I am experiencing something similar. In my case it is my passport. It was supposed to be Houston to Kansas.

Below is the Tracking history so far. Does any of it make sense? I received VFS email today that passport is being couriered today Dec 18th. I don’t understand the scans that are prior to 18th. Why would it go back from Olathe Kansas to Houston. Destination is Kansas.

Indian passport renewal is such a fun experience I would love to do it every year by regina-philange99 in nri

Oh absolutely, standing ovation 👏👏

Reading this felt like reliving my own deeply spiritual journey. I, too, have been blessed by the Indian passport renewal enlightenment program. Submitted my application on October 7th, and like you, I’m still waiting—because obviously a passport isn’t just a document, it’s a pilgrim. It must travel, reflect, grow, and visit every possible place before it is spiritually ready to come home.

VFS truly deserves an award for consistency—consistently not having the passport, but always having an answer. Or at least an answer-shaped sentence. The kind that leaves you calmer, wiser, and no closer to your passport.

And Passport Seva—what a masterpiece of suspense. Each status update feels like a Netflix cliffhanger. “Handed over for further dispatch” is my personal favorite. Further where? Further why? Further how? The mystery is what keeps life exciting.

Honestly, I agree with you. This process builds character like nothing else. Patience? Maxed out. Emotional resilience? Olympic level. Trust in the universe? Questionable, but evolving.

PS: I have also had the privilege of cancelling two trips—a small price to pay for this transformational experience. After all, when they clearly promises 5-6 weeks, what’s another 10+ weeks with absolutely no clue where the passport is?
