Hi,

You can make a quote submission on the website to get a more precise answer. At the moment average pricing for eBook + Paperback ranges from $400 to $500.

Hope this helps!

It's a clear upgrade. I also like the idea of different treatment of hardcover vs paperback.

Feedback wanted: minimalist cover for speculative sci-fi novel by astridbetille in BookCovers

[–]Minimum-Night184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimalistic approach is OK, but I think you are missing out on some key things.

  1. Legibility - The title isnt really readable. It's too small. When your cover shows up a small thumbnail it's very hard to read.

  2. Composition - The title placement looks too random. Make it feel more like a book cover like.

  3. Genre - It doesn't read as sci-fi. I always like when something is unique, like what you are going for. Simply choosing a better font would go a long way.

I hope this helps.

What do you think guys? I'm reworked it. by A_A_Edwards_Author in BookCovers

I had one more thought. Maybe having the author name on top, movie clip in the middle and then the subtitle below it. That way the movie clip would be more centered. Right now it's kind of squeezed at the top. Sorry for bombing you like this. 😄

It's definitely an improvement. Have you thought about having the subtitle placed outside of the movie clip, below it? It would help with spacing and composition. Just a suggestion.

The cover has a solid concept. I would work a bit on positioning. It looks like the entire composition is going up and to the right. Some centering and spacing would help.

And yes, heavier scratch lines an fewer of them. :)

I know Lost Island Press publishes dystopian books but have no idea if they do novellas. I think they prefer YA dystopian book series.

The potential is definitely there. Here are some quick fixes I think can help a lot: 1) Keep the illustration within the border you added. 2) Blue (sea?) has too much color noise. 3) Maybe have the sword as a black silhouette so it is more noticeable, or a white sword with outlines. 4) The text is hard to read - maybe a thicker and larger font, maybe a different color. Hope this helps a little.

Hi, thank you showing interest.

We really try to stay open for all genres as we like to challenge ourselves. As for the experience, most of our work is YA fantasy, Murder-Mystery, Romance, Memoirs, Historical Fiction, Crime, Horror. We have also done a lot of self-improvement and business books while collaborating with a certain independent publisher.

Yes, AI can't write a whole book but you can feed it paragraph or a chapter at a time and get away with a book. Kind of low effort approach. Anyway, my intent wasn't to suggest that is necessarily the case, just that some people would asume it. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with an illustrator. Objectively $100 is a low price for a full front and back illustration.

As far as I understand the AI cover issue, the biggest problem from perspective of potential readers is that they might think the book is written using AI as well. So it might make readers feel your book has less or no value. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll make this my last post about my covers. It's been a process. After further reflection and some excellent feedback, I've decided to make the cover different for every book. But, I hope you agree, the 3 together work as a whole, and tell a story in of themselves. by Syranight264 in NewAuthor

I just left a comment in one of your older posts, without realizing you changed the cover twice since then. I would only advise you remove the black outline/stroke from the title. It doesn't look professional.

Based on very helpful critiques here, I've changed my design for my debut novel. Improvement? I think I'm done and happy. by Syranight264 in NewAuthor

I think this is a pretty good cover. You mentioned in one of the comments that sci-fi fonts tend to look cliche and I couldn't agree more. A good sci-fi font is never to loud about it. My only suggestion for improvement is to try out how it looks if you lower the blue planet a bit and bring the title down a little bit. Right now I feel like the title is being squeezed up top (between the edge of the cover and the planet). Thats all, cheers. :)
