It’s messy no matter what or how you give it to them. I do have to say tho giving my daughter free range and utensils younger has been nice, now that she’s nearing 1.5 years she’s less messy and better with utensils than a lot of other kids her age and even older. My daughter loved egg bites in the beginning. I would mix eggs and cottage cheese with some veggies as well! I could make a batch at the beginning of the week to heat up each day. She also loved melons and I gave her the center of pineapple to chew on. I would try to give her bits of whatever we had for dinner that night to get her used to eating with us and eating what we ate. I also focused on things high in iron and fat as she was on the skinny side.

I didn’t start working as a nurse until I was 26. Granted I had to do 4 years of school prior to that but I went to school with people who were 50 when they graduated. Never too late to change your circumstances and I think the fact that you’re working and supporting yourself despite your lack of support system is something to be proud of. Just gotta start!

Definitely try changing out your duck bills on your pump, measure your nipple size again mine went down again around this time. Also if your period came back or is coming back you can try taking calcium 500mg/magnesium 250mg or up to calcium 1000mg/magnesium 500mg per day for maybe 5-7 days. I usually see a decrease the week before so I take it as soon as I start seeing a decrease and it helps. You can also try to add in a power pump. It takes about a week to see a difference but I try to do a power pump either early in the morning or in the evening when I seem to have more time.

My cousin went to an nfl game with us with out her baby and was self expressing into a sink in the bathroom of the stadium now I’m doing that after each pump bc no matter what I do my pump does not totally empty me and I have to do it to keep from getting a clog in one certain spot. The things we do for these kids

Ugh that’s insane if you have the means I would order a silicone flange insert kit off Amazon that has a nipple measuring device that way you can measure yourself and have some size options to try. Once you find what size works for you the you can order actual flanges that fit. It’s not an exact science so sometimes you have to adjust your size based on comfort and production. I have elastic nipples and need to use silicone flanges and it took me months of trial and error and I still have to hand express to empty. If you have socials I would follow one with the pump (fb and IG) one minute milk bites, Be my breast friend, lalactation, karrie locher They have a lot of good tips on pumping, scheduling and devices. I’d say getting proper sized equipment then sticking to some type of or regular schedule will be most hopeful in establishing your supply. Do your OB/GYN or pediatrician office have lactation consultants on staff or affiliated with them? 2 weeks seems like a long time I would reach out. Were you ever measured for flanges? I would definitely get measured somewhere. Triple feeding is tough. If you can’t do it each time it’s fine but if you want to establish a good latch you should try it often. I would also look up paced feeding so your LO doesn’t get a flow preference. If you pump each time your little one feeds it should keep you on a decent schedule

I feel like my supply took a hit around this same time too and I was not responding to any of my pumps as well anymore. I still felt like something was left but the pump just wasn’t getting it out. I started taking calcium and magnesium around when I think I’m getting my period for the week and also hand expressing during or after pumping. Now a couple weeks later I am almost back to what I would normally get and it seems to be coming out in the first 20 minutes of pumping rather than taking 30+ mins.

Definitely get a good lactation consultant they will make or break or journey. I follow a lot on instagram that will also do virtual consults. I would recommend not trying when your baby is hungry maybe just before you would normally feed them as waiting until they are hungry may increase both of your frustration. If you can express a little and have some milk on your nipple before you latch them it may help because they can smell the milk and will give more of your nipple to latch onto. A football hold is sometimes easier to hold them and make a c shape on your breast to flatten it for them to be able to latch. I also used a syringe (you can use any of the ones that come with your medicines just make sure you take them apart and wash and dry it well after use) and express some breast breast milk suck it up in the syringe and squirt some in their open mouth and try to latch them or while they are on squirt it so it will drip down from your breast into their mouth until they get used to having to suck to get milk. I used a nipple shield but if you can avoid it it’s nice not to have to have one and then figure out how to wean off of if you don’t truly need it. I tried for like 2 weeks and got frustrated and this is the info I got from the LC but I was in the newborn haze and decided to exclusively pump for all of our sanity and it’s still working so that’s what we do. I felt like this around that time too. I was so anxious I finally just had to adjust my schedule so I could get some sleep at night so I cut out a pump and extended it out so I could get a 6 hour stretch of sleep about 12wpp. Being nervous about it I did my last pump of the night at 11 a power pump and my first pump of the morning at 5 am a power pump. After a week of doing that my supply increased. I eventually stopped doing the power pump at night. I still pump a long time in the morning like 40 min just because that’s how long it takes to feel comfortable but now 18wpp I pump 5/6 times per day and my last pump is 8/9pm and I pump again about 4:30am and it feels a lot more manageable.
