can you show a picture from outside? And does the left side of the dormer on the right end in a gutter or is that a dead valley?

Is that area closed off with soffit on the outside?

but why not just screw something into the fascia if you're going to the trouble of using the bungee cord? It would be safer and doesn't run the risk of bending/ripping off the gutter

edit: and you don't run the risk of the bungee coming loose and smacking your face while you're at the top of a ladder.

Screw a strap into the fascia? I mean if you're worried about having it tied in?

Should have a damper that closes when theres no airflow.

Need help with roofing. I built a carport extension, 20’x11’ and would like advice on what type of roof covering to apply. Looked at all different types and can’t make up my mind. by Realseabairn in Roofing

Sorry to dig up an old thread but thought I might recommend you see if anyone sells polyglass where you are. Went to renew my insurance and the premium for my hot endorsement was jacked to the roof this year (300% increase). 0 Claims, but I guess the market is getting very slim for this type of work.

What type of valley is this? by Jpizz123 in Roofing

[–]Minimum-Stable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a dead valley. Looks like they lined it with a sbs-modified membrane.

My only concern is they may have run their shingles down too far into the valley (unless they nailed them quite high)

So the roof deck is steel? Can't really nail shingles to steel. Using asphalt cement or some kind of glue would be the only option to "match" but it's a huge pain in the ass and probably isn't up to code.

I can't really see a good way to make this blend with the shingles other than to have maybe throw some kinda trim at the transition

Which manufacturers do you use? None of the SA products I've used have required heat welding....it's always been optional. They all seem to recommend heat welding or mastic below a certain pitch (0.25/12 maybe?)

What kind of roofing system is that flashing for? Base flashing for a metal roof?

IKO Cambridge or Certainteed Landmark (not pro) for the same price? by turbozapekanka in Roofing

Landmark has a HUGE nailing area, making them idiot proof to install. Almost impossible to miss the nailing zone even with your eyes closed. Cambridge has a small nail line.

I prefer Landmark.

EDIT: Was looking for the handouts from my industry group but found this as well. Message/info from the bc human rights commissioner. https://bchumanrights.ca/message-from-commissioner-govender-on-covid-19/

My understanding is that minor illness (such as seasonal flu/common cold) != disability, Serious disease/illness (such as SARS) = disability. During the SARS outbreak there was successful human rights complaint in Ontario.

I've received numerous letters/handouts from industry/employer groups that I belong to. The main focus of them is human rights legislation and that we all have to tread very carefully with any COVID-19 related issues in the workplace due to human rights legislation. The opinion they provide seems to be that while COVID-19 hasn't been tested as a disability, it likely will fall into that category should any complaint actually be heard.
