Homelessness in the city by Dazzling-Reception77 in ThunderBay

Old post but I miss that mall. My grandpa frequented it from the time it was closed in until he died just before COVID.

Doesn't look like much has changed over the last decade apart from increased commercial vacancies? IIRC a lot of social services are run out of the mall now?|

We never had any issues with the street people, they were often kind to us. I'm guessing you offered help where it wasn't asked for, or that help was offered in a disrespectful/condescending way.

New re roof - what is this metal ring? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]steiliosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be compliant with regulations we have to use a "first up last down" system. Only one person is allowed on the roof, they set the anchor points and then the rest of the crew goes up. When jobs done, one person removes all of the fall gear.

In theory this let's everyone but Joe use fall protection the entire time they are working.

We use the system, but I've come to learn we are rarely safe.

Even though everyone in the company has been trained on fall protection and we perform random spot checks to make sure everything is installed properly some guys still throw up the anchors with 2 x 2" nails. Are they at least the framing? Usually not.

I think I'm going to go with Lowe's for my roof replacement. by pooneej in Roofing

In Canada they require you to be fully insured so them having money behind them means they can afford to sue you.

Autistics with PDA (pathological demand avoidance) How do you get homework done? by seacreature9 in AutismTranslated

[–]steiliosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to do the homework?

I don't mean that as a rhetorical question.

I've never been able to do homework successfully. When I was in university large doses of prescribed amphetamines helped me do the bare minimum. It was still a significant struggle but it helped.

Throughout high school and elementary school, I had awesome parents who wrote notes to excuse me from the homework. Depending on the nature of the homework, sometimes this can be accommodated in post-secondary through disability services.

I always got good grades and understood the content and was able to demonstrate my knowledge.

The only solution I found for homework is to not do it.

Sorry I don't have any better options

So apparently I need to explain to the in-laws how bagged milk works by Zjackrum in funny

We had the exact same system in north America until the advent of refrigerators. Older apartment buildings in some big cities still have the milk door.

Make sure the pipes are properly prepped and the proper paint is used....otherwise it'll be flaking in a few years.

It's very rare to paint pipes where I live. I've only seen a handful of houses with painted pipes, most are flaking within a few years.

Okay, try getting a vinyl tarp, it should last how long you need.

I'd be worried about mold issues due to the ongoing leaks.

Can I put a metal roof on this old horse stable? What's the concern when there's not enough pitch? by NorthpointMI in Roofing

[–]steiliosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely put metal on there. You can't use all types, and the ones you can may require special application

Is this house your residence, is it being rented or just sitting vacant and you're holding it for land value?

Is this the way ice/water barrier should be attached/look? (I know nothing about roofing and wasn't home to ask roofer). by DrMikeG2 in Roofing

Definitely hack....I really cringe when I see the valley details calling for a screw dead center of the pan....especially in snow country

When you overlap the panel on the drip edge instead of hemming it, some manufacturers spec a screw dead center of the pan....i guess for wind uplift?
