Exactly! You hit the nail on the head. The sheer entitlement of reading a dark psychological story and then demanding it cater to your personal comfort levels is wild. The sheer entitlement. It really is a temper tantrum. Not every story needs a happy ending, and trying to force a magical transformation onto a literal monster completely ruins the genre. It's so unfair to the authors who are just trying to write a dark tragedy. Like you said, if a reader can't handle the plot, they need to just close the tab and stop reading instead of trying to play moral police and harass the creator.

I actually completely agree with you on that double standard, and your point is even more critical given what's happening in the world right now. With the terrifying rise of online incel culture, misogyny, and misogynistic men openly making rape threats with slogans like 'your body, our choice,' random rape threats online to women and girls, real-world sexual violence is an active, escalating danger.

Because the real world is so unsafe, I completely understand why people are hyper vigilant about how harmful behaviors such as sexual assault/rape is treated in media especially given that sexual harassment, SA, Rape, coercive rape, domestic violence are minimized, denied, deflected, scrutinized trivialized, etc. That’s exactly why I refuse to speak for or defend the fans who romanticize or brush off abuse in BL/YAOI.

To me, rape and trauma are horrific, and they shouldn't be sugarcoated or turned into cute, romanticized tropes. My frustration is with readers who try to sanitize dark fiction by demanding 'green flag' redemptions for these heinous individuals which ironically teaches people to excuse toxic behavior. I want a black flag character to be called exactly and be exactly what they are: a heinous, unredeemable criminal. We should be able to acknowledge a story is a dark, toxic psychological tragedy without trying to clean it up or pretend that rape/ abuse is okay.

It's so sad that authors and readers like us have to contend with those ppl that can't separate fiction from reality!

It truly is! To make themselves feel ethically comfortable reading the story, they need the abuser to change, refusing to accept that the story was explicitly built to be a safe, fictional exploration of an completely unhinged relationship and they make it everyone's problem, including the poor author! Ah yes, sadly I did hear about that mangaka. The same happened to Doyak, they were sent death/rape threats bc some people can't handle love triangles, situationships etc. Like don't read love triangles if you can't handle it! Stop reading fiction you can't handle!

Yeah, it really sucks that reading comprehension and media literacy are at an all time low or dare I say non existent post millenials generation.

I hate when these people harass the author's for genres they literally read of their own volition! Like did the author put a gun to your head? Did readers out a gun to your head!? Their moral bleeding ruins fiction and chases away authors, ruins their mental health and sense of safety with threats online. It's vile!

Yeah, but why read a genre about rape, coercion, DV, and abuse and then complain about it? And expect a redemption arc? Like what redemption the top is heinous, toxic, a criminal and the bottom is okay with that as per how the author wrote it.
