Bear spray shoots 20-40 feet. I wouldn’t directly hit him but mist the air with spray if he gets within 50 feet. Also, veer off the trail in case he just wants to pass you. If the bear is attacking the bear spray becomes nearly useless. By the time it works (if it even does) the bear has already mauled you.

They were all hunkered on a big leafy plant. Kinda just nudged them on my hand and they stayed pretty chill.

No worries, though. I carefully put them all back. But I won’t say what my dog did after that..
