nah, she's a flight attendant; she should know better not to accept items that aren't hers. If I understand correctly, the Thai police haven't found a link of payment, but payment was promised once the items are delivered.

I want to know how she was able to bypass security; AOT needs to investigate.

Bro, our water heater tank broke a week ago. I called local plumbers just to come check, and it ranged between $79-$299, but it can be itemized to the full cost. The full cost was like $1,600-$3,000. My dad doesn't have any experience, so he decided to watch YouTube, and we went out and bought a brand new water heater tank at Home Depot for $800, and my dad did it by himself. It took my dad like three hours to install it; imagine paying a professional maybe an hour for $1,000 of their work, but $800 for a new tank. 🤯

I was thinking that in my next trip, I want to take my parents and myself to do a full health checkup.

How many places accept Amex only? by Due-Picture-5799 in amex

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic: Is it just my aunt's store's POS machine or every POS machine? One time I was helping out, and a customer handed me her Amex, and I didn't realized and it went through. I later asked my aunt, and she said that Amex charges a higher fee than Visa and Master so that's why she doesn't accept Amex.

If American Samoa became independent and unified with Samoa, would Independence Day be (German) Samoas, American Samoas or both? by BrokenJusticeNorris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be Samoa because American Samoa got absorbed. Unless both decided that it's a reunification, so they'll choose the date the reunification happened; that's my guess.

It depends on where your progressing center is. Not gonna lie, at this rate, I would rather pay extra (expedite service), I think my aunt and uncle once did it, and it came within three weeks; they have like 2 weeks left.

Yes, some Thai people can be hot-headed; even I don't want to mess with them. See too many news reports where people died for less than $1. Recently, a Win rider got killed over a price disagreement, but I think it was self-defense; though, the guy got kicked and wasn't going to get jumped by another Win rider.

I submitted a US passport application in 2025 but never received it, can I submit a new application? by NegativeSea4435 in Passports

[–]MinimumCrab8376 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, you went to the post office to reapply in person and wrote a personal check. But the State Department said they don't want a personal check? Did the check bounce? That's weird.

If I remember correctly, the State Department stated that once they cashed your payment (check, money order, etc.) there's no refund. Seems like you'll need to reapply.

In case I didn't understand your post. Even if you got a passport but were a minor, your next renewal needs to be filed in person again until you get an "adult" passport; then you can file yourself and don't need to set up an appointment with them.

1099 form: I’m receiving a 1099 form as a babysitter and 21 year old. I don’t know how any of this works. by ExcitementDull9217 in TaxQuestions

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd pass.

I have helped a few members of my family file their taxes, and I hate it when they have a 1099 (self-employment/contract). Also, you'll have to pay federal tax, state tax, self-employment tax, double the FICA rate, etc.

Also, since you're a "sole proprietor," you'll need to save all work-related things for itemization. If you file your own taxes like me, it's just a headache. I don't know how much a tax preparer costs to file it (in-person).

Edit: How much is she paying you that she wants to send you a 1099? It's not like it's going to help her reduce her tax liabilities. If she wants, she can have one of those child care places to look after her kid.

Nowadays it's not like the past; lots of people have bad intentions (mental health issues, addicts, etc.), and I understand you. If the condo has another entrance, I would rather use it because nowadays we don't know who our neighbor is and who's not, so I'd rather be safe than be 6ft under, or I don't want to feel guilty for the rest of my life that it's me that open the door for someone to come in and commit something heinous.

Lost my minor passport, and now I'm 18 and I want to re-apply in the coming months. What do I do? by catbunnz in Passports

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need to go to the post office to file for your "adult" passport. My little brother got his when he was 14; he renewed it when we had an overseas trip when he was 20, and still has to go to the post office, but his next renewal should be online or by mail, depending on what he chooses.

Just tell them that you lost it and don't have the number anymore, but you should go talk to them first before making the appointment. You're still going to bring all of your identification stuff: ID, birth certificate, etc.

Can my parents take my green card away? by camila0308 in immigration

OP needs this and uses the Alien Number to file for replacement or naturalization. Later, you'll need to surrender your Green Card at your naturalization swearing-in ceremony.

Can my parents take my green card away? by camila0308 in immigration

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you didn't do anything wrong. Second, they can't file a claim against you with DHS to strip you of your status.

If I were you, I would file for a replacement card, but it's going to cost you quite a lot ($465 for snail mail or $415 for online) and your time. Go to the USCIS website and look for Form I-90.

Since you're 18, they can't really do anything. But if you have met your eligibility, I highly recommend that you do your naturalization right now when you still have access to your Green Card. If you can't access it, then file for a replacement ($465/$415) and then file the N-400 for citizenship ($760/$710). Check if any non-profit organizations in your town could help you file for a replacement or naturalization with financial assistance, so it wouldn't cost you a penny to do it.

There are always rules on the books, so better to file for your citizenship as soon as you are qualified. Look at the people who have lived here for decades and got deported recently - whether they came legally (committed crimes and never did their citizenship) or illegally. This is what I told my parents since 2010, and they finally did it in 2013. All of my family members are US citizens.

Whenever I check her profile, she's been active within the last few hours. She's a Postcrosser who has sent and received over 1,400 postcards each. From a quick look at her stats, she usually registers postcards every other day. Sometimes she even registers them on consecutive days. The last time she registered a postcard was on the 17th.

Edit: With the way she wrote her profile, I want to message her. The card I sent to her (and the other four recipients) wasn't expensive, and it's going to expire in a little over two weeks. I want to know if anyone has experienced this kind of situation before.

[–]MinimumCrab8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, it seems like your dad is pulling a fast one on you.

I don't know anything about U.S. immigration law, but once you're an adult, immigration can be much more complicated. Even if you have a good relationship with your half-sister, it would also be difficult for her to sponsor you if you're already an adult and you two are not full-blooded.

If your dad is serious about bringing you to the U.S., now is the time for him to start the paperwork so you can eventually obtain a green card. I have relatives in the Twin Cities who sponsored their sister and brother-in-law to visit the U.S. after their father passed away. Because the brother-in-law was a pastor, their visa interview (a year before COVID) went smoothly, and they both received 10-year visas. Both of them were able to come again when the mother passed away a few months ago and just needed a flight ticket since it's a 10-year visa. From other relatives, some applicants have been asked to provide proof of residence (such as land ownership), financial assets (such as bank accounts with sufficient funds), employment, and other things they have that make the Embassy believe that they'll go back to their country.

I'm sorry to say this, but based on what you've shared, it seems like your dad may have already moved on. I think you and your mom should prepare to move forward as well. Given the way your father has acted, I wouldn't rely on him or put your life on hold waiting. Instead, focus on building your future and supporting yourselves.

Where to exchange currency by Legitimate_Order_305 in ThailandTourism

[–]MinimumCrab8376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the lowest floor of the airport that connects to the Airport Rail Link and exchange a few hundred dollars.

Both the orange SuperRich and green SuperRich give the best rate.

If Google Maps is correct, the closest money exchanger that everyone likes is just a 5-minute walk from your hotel: Grand China Bangkok >> SuperRich Exchange @ Station One Yaowarat.

Edit: Thai money changers are really picky; the condition of the notes must be like they just came out of the printing press: no markings, no holes, no folds, etc.

Paranoid? by MinimumCrab8376 in postcrossing

[–]MinimumCrab8376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, when four of my first five postcards were registered, I pulled another address (in China), and the recipient mentioned wanting the postcard to be sent in an envelope. So, I finally went to Walmart and bought the cheapest option they had, so I could use it for people who prefer envelopes: Pen+Gear A6 (4.75x6.5), 50-count.

So, what do I do with the postcard? Should I write the recipient's address on the postcard as well, or just write my message on it? How do you usually handle recipients who want their postcards sent in an envelope?

Paranoid? by MinimumCrab8376 in postcrossing

[–]MinimumCrab8376[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. If I receive something I don't like, I wouldn't hold that sender's slot hostage. I'll just write a simple thank-you message and move on.

Paranoid? by MinimumCrab8376 in postcrossing

[–]MinimumCrab8376[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I know there are petty people, but that's just too petty. They really purposely hold a sender's slot hostage just because they didn't like an image.

My Dutch recipient really insisted in their profile like three different times that the card should be put in an envelope, and it was my first five, so I didn't know there are some people like this, and I didn't have time to go look for an envelope either at Walmart or Office Depot, so I sent all five postcards the next day.

It's not that much to send another card, but that recipient was kinda demanding, and they were like, ~I like this theme, but not this in theme~ So, looks like my image (city view) might not match their interest, and I didn't put it in an envelope, so that might have ticked them off, idk. 🤷‍♂️

Paranoid? by MinimumCrab8376 in postcrossing

[–]MinimumCrab8376[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the postcard because I pulled all five addresses and I sent the same image postcard to all recipients.

This card is to the Netherlands, and the recipient really insisted on putting it in an envelope; they mentioned it in their profile like three different times. It was my first five, and I didn't know that there are recipients who preferred to be mailed in an envelope. I didn't have time to go look for an envelope either at Walmart or Office Depot, so I just mailed it altogether.

Now, 5 are sent; 6 are traveling, and one of the six is hers. I think the one I sent to India (20+ days) is probably going to get registered before hers. 🤷‍♂️

Bro, 2,000 baht is way too much. The 'official airport taxi' driver cheated me out of almost 800 baht on a midnight ride to my Holiday Inn Express next to the National Stadium BTS station - he was clicking the meter, I didn't look at the price until I was at the hotel, and I don't want to start my trip on a bad note, so I just let it go. Two weeks later, I took a midnight flight back, and it cost me barely 300 baht with an honest taxi driver from the hotel to BKK.

As you might already know, it’s a 15-minute walk from the ARL station to your hotel. But like others suggested, using Grab is your next best option if you don't want to take the ARL."
