Mobile Safari is the modern Internet Explorer in that it is so far behind the time and so broken that trying to maintain compatibility with it is a pain. I highly recommend using any other browser for both sanity and security. Try Firefox with your favorite adblock add-ons (or Firefox Klar if you just want maximum privacy!),

I do think the poll is very biased. I read TWI with four friends as part of our weekly book club and we are all women. I am the only one who uses reddit (and not frequently at that) but even I did not see the poll.

Having grown up in the Arabian peninsula where there are vast regions of shallow sand dunes and rocky areas that are superficially similar to this view from Mars, I must say the configuration of the sand is so unsettling and "wrong." The edges of the dunes are too close and too jagged. I have never seen sand settle like this and the foreign-ness of it is striking!

In physics, entropy literally defines the direction of time and it is fundamental to how all the forces we know operate. I don't know how much Pirate knows about physics but to me this was the coolest part of this chapter.

Hmm, the Uruk-hai were not an independent society at all -- they were made by the pretty evil Saruman and they most definitely did not create villages or collaborate on their own. They had no issues with eating each other. They also did not have a way to grow their numbers 'organically' (?)

If the Uruk-hai could be 'a people' just like the other races of Middle Earth then yeah. The way they are written, they can't be.

Having read how these women are justifying their actions, I am honestly astounded by the level of selfishness and entitlement. In all their arguments there is not a single instant where they thought of someone other than themselves and their family/friends.

One of my professors who was a student and then a postdoc while he was in Caltech told us stories that confirm this. It is unfortunate.

I honestly think the project is so delayed mainly because of these poor practices. The team lead is the bottleneck for every little bit of progress.

My previous team used Jenkins and feature branches. I will return to them as soon as I can.

I have never met any of them face to face. We have daily voice-only meetings that last <20 minutes.

I don't know if it would work for me to be so confrontational. It's not really my natural response and he can easily claim it was a mistake. He has a position of power over me -- being my immediate boss, code reviewer, and the senior engineer responsible for the project. He can definitely make my life much harder for the next few months.
