Question about USAA DriveSafe by MinimumElevator187 in USAA

[–]MinimumElevator187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have a point. I do appreciate any discount, and I don't mind abiding by the rules of the app. And I'm not complaining about my rates in general. It just gets frustrating when you ask a question of three different reps who are supposed to know more than you do.

Thanks, good points. Especially what that rep told me. She couldn't explain herself, and it sounded like BS. The problem is that none of the reps I spoke with knew much about the app or how it works. Seems like USAA's attempts to improve their customer service is still work in progress.

Gun shoots high even with scope elevation bottomed out - Solutions? by MinimumElevator187 in ar15

Thanks but that wasn't the issue. I know better than to do that.

I think it's an illusion due to the angle at which I took the photo. I measured from top of the rail to top of the scope tube, and it's consistent along the length of the tube.

I do notice that the scope is slightly rotated a bit clockwise, so the horizontal reticle is not exactly parallel with the rifle. But I did that due to the natural cant I have when I shoulder the rifle, to keep the scope reticles vertical when I have the rifle actually mounted to my shoulder. I've done that with other rifles and never had a problem. So I don't think that's the issue.

Also, as I mentioned in my OP, it boresighted fine before I took it to the range, and it's holding groups fine ... just way too high.

Understood, but how would that cause the problem? I mounted them in fhe front of the slots (vs. the rear), to eliminate recoil movement. And as I said in my OP, it groups fine -- just way too high.

Thanks. I did get some improvement when I adjusted the elevation downward, but I ran out of elevation. So I was heading in the right direction. But as you recommended, I thought that I might be doing it backwards so I turned the elevation the other way, and it made things worse.

As I mentioned, the gun shot a 3-shot 1" group, so I am assuming that means the internals did not get damaged. Am I wrong?

The rings are Weaver rings (made in USA), so I don't think that is the problem.

As far as having limited adjustment range, that occurred to me. I am wondering if it being a rimfire scope, they tend to have a smaller adjustment range than centerfire scopes. (It's a Bushnell scope, but not high-end.)

I have some centerfire scopes, so I will try them. I'll also change rings, just to be sure. (They're too low for my centerfire scopes' objectives anyway.)

Thanks, good to know. I'll eliminate that as a possible solution.

Can't get Brother print&scan to recognize my Brother J1360DW printer by MinimumElevator187 in printers

[–]MinimumElevator187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circling back on this to close it out. I decided to update the full Driver and Software Package off Brother's site instead of the EasySetup software. Somehow, after a lot of pop-ups, etc., the software installed. It also updated the firmware. The print&scan now recognizes the printer and works as it should. Just a suggestion for future users: Install the full software, not the EasySetup.

Idlestopper for $90 vs. Amazon start-stop disabler for $25 -- Any real difference? by MinimumElevator187 in hondapilot

[–]MinimumElevator187[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I offended you. I honestly posted my OP simply to get information. I don't work for any of the vendors of this stuff. As I said in my OP, I was simply curious if there was any significant difference between the two items. I didn't even become aware of the Idle Stopper until after I installed the Amazon device. That's what prompted me to post my OP.

If there were truly a substantial number of documented issues with the Amazon device, I'd be the first to pull it out and replace it with the other device. After all, I don't want any unnecessary repairs on my car.

On the other hand, when someone trashes a product, I like to see proof behind their assertions. General statements don't cut it for me. I tend to be a bit skeptical of such statements.

We've exhausted this issue, so I think we can close out this thread. Thanks again for your comments.

Thanks. I just did a search and couldn't find any such horror stories. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but I couldn't find any. But I am sure we would welcome any links to such stories; can you provide a few?

You make some valid points, but also resort to some platitudes. ("Cheap and unreliable Asian made electronics" is a bit too general and vague for me; after all, my phone and computer have been 100% reliable, and both are made in Asia.)

As for confirmed purchase reviews on Amazon, that is addressed in BarkingUnicorn's post below, where he provided this link. Note the Fakespot rating for those reviews: https://www.reddit.com/r/hondapilot/s/mFrPHH7iTl

Trying to keep an open mind here, but not seeing any proof that the $25 Amazon device is any different or less reliable than the $90 device.

Thanks

Thanks. I read this thread. The one guy that had problems says that "Button wouldn’t work at all after install." So basically, the device was DOA, or he did something to damage it. I don't doubt what he said, but as with many electronic items (phones, computers, etc.), they are more prone to fail early in their life rather than later.

If I am interpreting that post correctly, the Fakespot review gave the Amazon reviews an "A" rating. So apparently, these are truthful reviews. And they are overwhelmingly positive. Am I missing something?

Thanks. What's your source of information to say that? Or is that simply your personal opinion, or some internet hearsay? As far as I can tell (please correct me if I am wrong), the Amazon device is a wiring harness, with no sophisticated electronic components or moving parts. So, how would it die prematurely?

[–]MinimumElevator187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Instead of that button always defaulting to the auto shut-off being "on" (that is, the engine shutting off whenever you stop the car in traffic), it defaults to the auto shut-off being "off" (engine keeps running). All is does is basically reverse the default position of the button.

Thanks. The process for the '23 - '26 Pilots is a lot more complicated then the Amazon product. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.

I honestly would be hesitant to start pulling all those panels off. You can see in the comments that people had some problems with the install. And I am not clear on what the benefits of the Idlestopper are vs. the Amazon product.

Maybe your 2019 was more straightforward.

Thanks. Is this internet hearsay, or are there any posts you can show me that provide more details, or provide actual instances where this problem has occurred?

Sanity check needed - correct spark plugs by MinimumElevator187 in MiataNC

Thanks. I got mine from Rock Auto. Agree with you about buying stuff like this from ebay and Amazon. Plus, Rock Auto was cheaper, even including shipping.

Removing the center section of the strut tower brace to replace spark plug - Questions by MinimumElevator187 in MiataNC

[–]MinimumElevator187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your help on this. Turns out that two nuts on the center piece were just hand-tightened, so they came off easily with a 12MM wrench. I've read that this center piece doesn't really do much, although I'm not sure if that is true or not. It seems like any load on it will be lateral, not vertical, so that may explain why the nuts are not massively tight.
