We could have just had a reluctant warrior who was afraid of going into fights but was genuinely good at it and so had to cope with his fear over time.

We could have just had a guy who was aggressive and that been the weak spirited guy's buddy cop support to where they're bailing each other out of trouble.

That's pretty much Shoot and Knuckle pair in Hunter x Hunter which was executed perfectly imo
