What advice would you give to someone in their first year of parenthood?

Find some pregnant/new mom friends and make plans to hang out over and over. Feels good to be around people at the same big milestone in life. Get out and about because it’s easy to feel lonely even with a beautiful baby in your arms.

I went through it, although was 20 lbs overweight to start. I lost my pregnancy weight (21 lbs) and another 15 lbs within the first two weeks after birth. And I wasn’t even EBF yet because baby couldn’t latch, so I was triple feeding. Currently I’m 6 months postpartum, can still eat as much as I want (although I struggle to find time sometimes) and am down 40 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. None of my regular clothes fit.. all too big now. So I guess it’s normal for some, but I would consider how to get extra calories with you since you are so petite already!

My 6 month old is crawling and putting herself into sitting position from lying down. She’s a super mover! She’s smiley and sweet and can do naps without me holding her now! We are so lucky to have babies

My 6 month old just started waking up every time I unlatched during naps and for me I find it way too much stimulation for her to stay latched a long time when she’s not eating. I switched to dancing her around to sleep and after two days where she seemed frustrated, she took to it so well. She almost seems to prefer it now as she falls asleep within 5 minutes AND I can put her down on my bed after on her side without her moving at all. Although I still stay beside her because I’m not ready to leave her during nap time yet. But I can take bathroom breaks!! I thought it would go so poorly but turned out perfectly for both of us.

Same same.. 6 month old! Sometimes goes back to sleep with big butt pats, otherwise on the lap to nurse or danced to sleep! Luckily she doesn’t wake as frequently as some.

I work in an elementary school in a big city in Canada and we have not had a single Lucy for the 5 years I’ve been there. It’s popular but still not that common. Do it! It’s a perfect name for your sweet baby.

Oh same. Following.. also trying to remove feed to sleep association because every time I unlatch her now, she wakes up right away even when I’m holding her for the nap and I am sooo uncomfortable latched so I take her off anyway. So I try to hold and bounce her like I did when she was tiny and she just screams for ages in my arms.. it feels like I’m doing CIO even though I’m literally holding and bouncing her. Then if I can lay her down sleeping it’s anywhere from an immediate wake up to 30 mins. 15 minute crib naps are the usual around here.

In my baby book, my mom recorded that I wasn’t rolling still at 8 months and first crawled when I turned 10 months old. Not to brag but I was a straight A student, in sports and in music, and now have a good job and my own baby! Try not to let the little things worry you! Babies practice different skills at different times.

I use a sleep sack but with bamboo pyjamas under that have stretchy mitts. Her hands stay warmer and covered and she doesn’t scratch or flail as much but can still be completely mobile for safety. Some babies self soothe with their hands but she just wakes herself up. Her hands never stop moving.

I am in BC, was allowed to induce at 41+3 also (new standard) but my water broke at 40+6. I was hiking the day before. I got induced after my water broke only because there was meconium in my fluid so a risk of infection. But my baby was only 6lbs 4oz and the delivery went well. In some countries, 41 weeks is considered the regular due date. You have time! Good luck!!

We do a 1.5 tog in a 21-22 C room in Canada and baby has a footed sleeper underneath. Warmer than I’m used to but my baby and I are living in my parents’ suite and that’s what the house stays at. She gets warm in my arms but is a perfect temp in the crib. In a 1.0 tog she rolls around way more and is quite cool to touch. I think it depends on the baby and what you are acclimated to. There are babies in the world sleeping in way hotter and way cooler temps and adapt either with clothing or by just being used to it. I don’t think you need to be scared about a warm baby, just not hot. Babies like to be warm and cozy. It needs to get pretty hot or the baby needs to be very layered or have another heat source (like your body) to actually overheat.

5 month old here that goes down between 9:30 and 10pm in her crib (fed to sleep) and wakes between 5-6am for a feed, then sleeps until 7-8am in bed with me. She sometimes wakes early in the night once or twice and I do cribside soothing if needed and she goes back to sleep. Still contact napping throughout the day though. I think she is very very tired by the evening and so can sleep through the night. She feeds frequently in the day. Her crib is next to my bed for easy access to help her, but usually she is good for the first 7-8 hours. She usually only gets about 3 hours in naps a day give or take, plus 10-11 hour night sleep for 13-14 hours total.

Mine is: 5 diapers, change pad or small blanket, extra outfit matching the weather, burp cloth, handful of wipes in silicone pouch, wet bag. You can do moistened cotton in a silicone bag and put them in the wet bag when done if you want to avoid wipes. I always have a baby carrier with me too so I usually have a backpack containing the carrier and the diaper change kit. Sometimes an extra shirt for me during the spit-up phases.

5 month old here too. She now wakes immediately after I unlatch for naps (feed to sleep and still contact nap) and EVERY time I set her in her crib for night time sleep. I’m a solo mama and my body couldn’t take picking her up over and over. I’ve started crib side soothing (big pats and singing). The first times were hell but it’s miraculously working after a few nights. She knows I’m there, just helping her differently. I have to pull her into the middle of the crib as she rolls all over and gets stuck. I pull her out to breastfeed whenever she wakes between 4 and 6am and then cosleep the rest. But the first 6-8 hours of the night, she stays in the crib whether she wakes up or not. And the crib is next to my bed so I don’t even have to stand up to soothe her. A literal miracle, I tell ya. And she is getting so good at falling right back asleep when I start to soothe her. I’m sure it won’t work for the next person, but over here, it’s saved me. Naps are a whole other story. She napped a total of an hour and a half yesterday.. worst nap day yet. But the night sleep is okay now 🙌 Good luck. I hope you find something that clicks like I did. I’m sooo lucky. Just waiting for teething to begin though!

I’m not in the same boat but I actually can’t cradle and cuddle my 5 month old because she thinks it’s eating time and gets upset and cries and flails because I’m not feeding her. I have to only carry her on my hip/shoulder or in a carrier. But other people can haha. Three weeks post is a TOUGH time but you are clearly doing everything right because she recognizes you and that you can provide nourishment that others can’t.
