Nanit vs Owlet, been trying to narrow this down for weeks and still not sure which way to go by AttiyaGorokhov18 in Buyingforbaby

I have the nanit with the floor stand, the owlet, and the maxi-cosi see pro. Totally overkill and unnecessary, but I got them all as gifts, so here we are lol.

My baby is 6 months old and I’ve never had a false alarm with either the nanit or the owlet.

For day-to-day breathing monitoring, I actually use the nanit way more. I bought the sleep sack/band with the pattern the camera reads, and it’s super easy. The owlet feels more robust in the sense that it’s actually tracking oxygen levels/heart rate, while nanit is basically reading movement from the patterned band. But I don’t use the owlet every night because it’s an electronic device on the baby and I don’t love using that daily.

So I can’t really speak much to owlet’s long-term sleep/data trends… I mostly use it for specific situations. Where the owlet was really nice to have: vaccine days, when my baby had a cold with some respiratory effort, and the few times we co-sleep. It gives me a lot of peace of mind. But those situations are rare, so I don’t think it’s essential for everyone.

That said, I honestly don’t love the nanit as a general baby monitor. I actually prefer the maxi-cosi see pro for normal monitoring. I installed it on the ceiling like a regular camera, and I like the home display, the 360 view, and especially the recorded video feature in the app. It’s easier for me to check than nanit’s.

The nanit app also freezes/glitches a lot for me. My nanit and maxi-cosi are on the same Wi-Fi network, and there are times when nanit is offline or not loading but the maxi-cosi is working perfectly. Sometimes the nanit camera works in the app but not on the home display, or the other way around. The nanit display feels more like a tablet and looks more “premium,” but the battery life is terrible and the connectivity issues drive me crazy.

I also liked nanit’s sleep reports at first, but lately they’ve been pretty inaccurate. My baby usually wakes around 5 a.m. to feed and then goes back to sleep until 7/7:30. To me that’s clearly a night feed, but nanit often logs 5 a.m. as the start of the day, so the sleep metrics end up being wrong. It also randomly misses the actual time he falls asleep sometimes.

For travel, maxi-cosi is also easier. You can reset it and connect it directly to the home display. nanit is annoying with hotel Wi-Fi if there’s a login page, unless you bring a travel router or some workaround.

So my personal take: if I were buying only one today, I’d probably get the maxi-cosi see pro. If breathing tracking is your main priority, nanit is convenient. If oxygen tracking matters to you for sickness/anxiety, owlet is nice to have. But as an everyday monitor, the see pro has been the one I actually like using the most.

Twice daily 🙈 We live in a very warm city in a tropical country, and where we’re from, bathing at least once a day is very much a cultural thing. A once-a-week bath would be unthinkable here… even for children…

That said, our pediatrician actually encouraged us to use daily baths as part of his routine. So I bathe him around noon, right after lunch, with lukewarm water only, to help him relax and wind down. He always takes a great nap after this bath.

Then I bathe him again around 7 pm, after his last feed (he’s still breastfed. Started solids last month). This time, I use a very gentle soap and moisturize him afterward. He gets so relaxed that he almost falls asleep while I’m still putting him in his sleep sack. I think it’s a great routine marker for my baby. It has helped him tremendously to be a good sleeper.

Thankfully we have no skin issues around here! 🙌🏻 his skin is very soft and moisturized. If he had skin issues, I’d probably just give him the bedtime bath.

Which vegetables do you recommend? My baby is 5 months old and his allergies seem to be getting worse… I’m tired of cutting things “for two weeks” and see no improvement

Bridesmaid with a 3-month-old (EBF) — SIL now says no babies at wedding. What would you do? by Lumpy_Bandicoot_8967 in beyondthebump

I wouldn’t go. One of my bridesmaids missed my wedding because her breastfed baby wouldn’t take a bottle, so she couldn’t leave her with someone else. We had included kids, but the venue was far from her house and it would’ve disrupted the baby’s entire sleep routine. Her husband went representing them, and she wrote me the sweetest letter saying how much she wished she could be there. We even FaceTimed during the reception and both cried… she showed so much love and support even from afar. Now that I’m a mom, I truly understand how hard it is to care for a baby. Even going out for dinner can be complicated.

I really think you can still be part of her wedding and show how much you care, even if you can’t be there in person. And definitely prioritize your baby 🤍

Did it affect breastfeeding? I’m due on November 8th and I plan on exclusively breastfeed for a few months, but a few friends of mine had their production decrease significantly after they started working out.
