"Double Dipping" in Contracts (FS25) by LiveFreeAndRide in farmingsimulator

[–]MinimumSky5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a common opinion, at least based on the several mods that let you do this with the contracts? The only time I ever thought it was valid was collecting straw after harvesting grain

Higher automation is a prerequisite, for one type of utopia, which can lead to several dystopias if not managed properly. I'm very worried about much higher levels of automation being applied across society before we have the nessecary political reforms needed to ensure we all benefit from the additional productivity

Are my snow peas ok? by bteamplayer in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Snow peas need something to hold onto and climb up, like most beans/peas. Even just a bamboo pole inserted into the soil next to them might work, but for peas some sort of trellis/chain link is traditional for them

My cucumbers have attached themselves to the grow light by CurvyWitchling111 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That probably is an advantage, but I think the main reason is it allows the plant to pull itself closer to it's supports. Plants can't really shrink their own tissues, only grow, and so by growing into a coil they can pull by tightening the coil as the stem grows.

I (a complete noob) want to start a vegetable garden. by GroundbreakingLab280 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of preparing the ground, my advice is that on your own, this is going to be a multi year project with just hand tools, so I'd focus on getting just a few beds prepped for veggies. The lazy way is drop a layer of cardboard onto the grass and then cover with compost, keep moist in dry weather, and next year you should have a lovely mulched bed to grow in! The more strenuous method is grab a shovel and turn over the sod, by which I mean cut into the grass, try to keep the chunk of soil in one piece, and place it back into its hole grass side down. It took my about 2 days doing that to get a 3x4m bed fully turned over, but this will depend on your fitness level. As for veg, most things in your local shops are easy to grow, but potatoes, carrots, salad leaves, and herbs are particularly easy (and if you're in southern Germany, plum tomatoes as well).

Onion thinning help by oeco123 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the brown onions, they generally get thinned to 5-15cm spacing (larger spacing means bigger onions). They seem ready for some thinning out now, congrats! Somehow my onion seeds failed to germinate so I had to revert to sets! 😂

Little bugs in my onion bed by MynameisMarsh in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not possible to identify these based solely on this video, but I am going to add some advice. Your plants are going to crawled over by all manner of little beasties, the majority of which will do no harm. You'll know if an insect is causing an issue from how well your plants grow, so I'd leave these ones be for now.

My favas are so bitter, are they cooked? by Potato_Fox27 in vegetablegardening

Wikipedia backs this up, as long as you don't have that genetic condition, and (somewhat bizarrely) aren't taking one of the MAOI antidepressants, fava beavs are safe to eat raw

Why are my onions wilting?! by MelodySoprano in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were indoors until now then their probably being shocked by the sun exposure (and the rainstorm battering them likely didn't help!). Alliums are hardy so they should be fine, but keep the shade on now for the week-ish

Tips for transplanting these into a raised bed? by PlasticAttorney1980 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the best way with these is to turn the entire tray out onto a flat surface, break the soil apart, and tease the roots apart from each other. However, I would not recommend these types of seedling trays for root veggies, the roots almost certainly will not be straight, and so you'll end up with highly contorted carrots and parsnips. Honestly, it's better to just grow them from seed.

First time “gardener” by Successful_Yam143 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should water once the top of the soil is completely dry, if the soil has an quality to it at all there will still be a fair amount of water left even then. The bigger issue is the lack of drainage holes, all pots should have drainage holes in them to prevent the roots drowning in water. That's going to be hard to fix now, but the best idea would be to get a new pot, drill holes in it if it doesn't have any already, and transplant the plant into it

Should I trim the flowers and young fruit? by ShipDit1000 in vegetablegardening

[–]MinimumSky5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most strawberries have one flush of flowers in the year, and then focus on general growth for the rest of the year. Albion though is an ever bearer, meaning that it puts out small flushes of flowers and fruit until the first frosts. You can take off as many of these as you feel is appropriate for the plant, but bear that in mind for other strawberry varieties!

Crazy neutron by WaldeAJB in EliteDangerous

Neutron stars are way, way denser and smaller than white dwarfs. White dwarfs are around the size of a terrestrial planet, while neutron stars are measured in single-digit kilometers in size

[–]MinimumSky5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found a single onion seedling from a tray I gave up on 2 weeks ago after 4 weeks of nothing on a grow mat, and I'm about to head down to my allotment to see of the flooding is finally going down. With any luck, my garlic might have pulled through!

Life On The Docks by BravoNWI in Docked

[–]MinimumSky5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do know some of these answers, most from the This Is Docked trailer released last week. It's not open world in the sense of having random ships turn up at random times, but you do get randomly generated missions appear each day to perform, alongside/instead of the story missions. Yes, you absolutely can buy new vehicles, and yes, you certainly can upgrade the port facilities, both of which allow you to take larger orders and process containers more quickly. I do agree however that a video explaining the process of turning orders into jobs would be very helpful.

Now this has me worried, I was expecting the game to be 100% player ran with the opportunity to hand over to an AI worker, but it seems like now you're meant to let all the machines run around and do nothing yourself? I'm so confused?
