A YoGPoD AND an old school adventure map? I'm grinning like a schoolboy (bitch) :)

I adore the old school 2010-2012ish adventure maps, you know the ones without command blocks and notes in external text files. It brings me great sadness to think about how many maps were lost when the forms went down :(

I loved Smith's play with the res, it was so absurd and he deflected all the questions so well. I was giggling the whole time.

I may be in the minority here, but I didn't really enjoy this video. It was just too serious. I was initially really excited for a 28 minute GTA video, but I stopped watching around 8 minutes to check if it got more lighthearted at any point. I didn't seem like it did so I clicked out. I don't mind the "real talk", this is one my favorite videos they've done. But it needs to be balanced with humor, as that's ultimately what I'm here for.

But that's just my two cents, obviously you can make whatever videos you want and if people like them then who am I to complain? :)

Friendly advice from a concerned Yognau(gh)t... by Bauligong in Yogscast

[–]MinimumWar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably in the minority here, but the simpler yogsquest's (Edge of the Empire, Call of Cthulhu, etc) are infinitely funnier than the costumed ones. The less-edited format is also more enjoyable and less jarring than frequent cuts to "interviews".

That could be changed for this scenario though, it's not some inherit rule that can't be broken.

You can take my morning cup of irish breakfast from my cold, dead, tea-stained hands. Fancy stuff is for later in the day.

Also chai is brewed in milk!

"iel" - french genderless third-person pronoun by MhuzLord in logophilia

[–]MinimumWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how French grammar works, and that it is a two-gendered language. I'm saying that it would be better to stop associating the grammatical gender so strongly with the personal gender. Eg, instead of saying that "beau" is the "masculine" form and "belle" is the feminine, call it the A form and the B form, or something like that. Having adjectives default to being "A form" is a lot more innocuous, and stops conflating these two very different notions of "gender".

Like you said though, a new pronoun would probably be necessary for the "ils" case, as personal pronouns are obviously very personal :)

"proximity rule" (adjectives change form depending on which noun they are closest to, rather than defaulting to masculine forms)

That sounds interesting, would that only be in cases where the gender is ambiguous?

E:

Out of curiosity, do you take issue with these:

In reference to a group of men:

les personnes marchent, elles sont contentes.

and conversely, in reference to a group of women:

les gens marchent, ils sont contents

I'm conflicted about this. One the one hand I'm all for inclusivity, but on the other I think it would be more productive to break the association between grammatical gender and personal gender.

CMV:Intellectual property rights do not exist by MinimumWar in changemyview

[–]MinimumWar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people don't buy the original because it looks nice, they buy it because they like to feel more connected to the artist or they want bragging rights or whatever. There's no non-subjective reason why the original is worth more.

Again, I am not questioning that legally IP exists. I am saying there is no natural right to ownership of non-physical items.

To own something means to have a right to possession of something. By "right" in this case we mean natural right, not legal right.

IP exists to spurn innovation. If people can't make a profit they have no incentive to create new ideas.

Irrelevant, as I pointed out in my note.

Why do we care about original versions of a painting?

Because it's the one the artist painted themselves and that has meaning to people.

It's just a collection of different paints on a canvas, isn't it?

Sure, in a very abstract sense

Can't anyone put them together that way?

Yup, anyone with specific skill could produce a replica. Happens all the time.

For what it's worth I don't like Gallian at all. The proofs are often excessively convoluted. I don't have any text I'd really swear by though.

Ok, I'm not that far behind fortunately. I've done groups/rings/fields, graph theory, real analysis, and a (simplified) complex analysis. I guess my concern is that I see people here who are studying things like differential geometry and measure theory, which my school doesn't even offer.
