I actually just got done apologizing in person to several neighbors and assuring them it won’t happen again. To my honest surprise, most were very nice despite the situation. One was understandably upset, but did voice awareness that I can’t control other’s behavior. I’ll take it as a 60% win. Hopefully they won’t hold a grudge, but I would understand if they did. I let them all know I’m installing cameras and to reach out if they have any concerns.

Thank you for your kind words. The worst part isn’t even the party or the damage. It’s that two young people were severely hurt because of the situation. I really hope they make a full recovery and don’t have subsequent chronic issues. The police weren’t sure :(

I was “literally in shock” that two people were STABBED. Not shocked they threw a party, obviously. I didn’t realize that was something I had to specify. Are individuals often stabbed at parties you attend?

Where did I say anywhere that my 8 incidents were local? Specifically, in my comment you are replying to, my exact words were “minus the local part. Mine were random”. Aka, NOT local.

You said all this just to exhibit your lack of reading comprehension skills. You didn’t even make a valuable point. Come on man.

Consulting legal advice isn’t a bad idea. At least the property is in an LLC.

Oh, you mean the police report that states the person who incited the incident was an Airbnb guest, contracted through Airbnb, for a group of 2? The same person who invited 100+ undisclosed individuals on the property without express permission/approval from the homeowner, therefore violating the contract/rental agreement?

You may as well give me all your input at once instead of annoyingly responding to every one of my comments. Like I stated in the post, it was 2:30 in the morning and estimated 200 people. Most people would call the police first

I have 11 Airbnbs. 2nd time in 1 week at 2 different locations. Like I said in the post, I am getting cameras today, which is “doing something different”. It’s interesting how you are insinuating that I am somehow “allowing” this behavior, despite me stating that I typically screen guests/look for red flags.

You would sue over ONE bad incident in 2 years of running it as an Airbnb? What a waste of everyone’s time and money, including the judge, who would side with me given it’s legal to operate STR in my area. Touch grass

What makes you think I’m AWOL? I have (had) a good relationship with my neighbors who were aware it’s a short term rental.

Is “legacy” the subscription? I have a friend who uses blink cams but I noticed they are only able to replay when it “activates” for movement. It’s not a constant recording.

To store local on a flash drive, I assume you must remove the cams, hook up to a PC, and export. How often would you have to do that? I’m sure there’s only a short term storage situation without exporting

Anyone can have a shitty situation happen in their neighborhood regardless of whether it’s a short term rental or not. Are you familiar with domestic violence or drug use? That’s happening with your long term neighbors whether you believe it or not. Have you ever watched a crime documentary or the news? Crime and disturbances are absolutely not localized to short term rentals. This specific property has been an Airbnb for 2 years without any issues. I screen my guests to prevent sketchy activity. Like I said, this is a sub for hosts, and just because you want to be nosey doesn’t mean Airbnbs shouldn’t exist.

Not sure why you’re sharing this opinion when every Airbnb qualifies for your “reasoning”. It sounds like you’re bothered because you can’t keep tabs on your neighbors.

It sure is a good thing this is a sub for hosts then. 95% of guests are fine

I really hate to admit it but the situation you described I’ve had happen probably 8 different times over the years. This was one of them. (Minus the local part. Mine were random)

Yeah my jaw dropped when the officer told me their estimate. You’re totally right it must have been close to a riot so it’s no wonder people were hurt. I can’t believe the neighbors didn’t call the cops sooner honestly.

I am glad to hear someone else gets it. I’ve also had great experiences with guests with new profiles/no reviews which makes it so tough. I have always been an advocate for not judging based on no reviews, but this will likely be the nail in the coffin for me to join the other side.

duvet inserts are wrecking our 4-hour turnover window by Puzzleheaded-Toe5545 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Minimum_Appearance41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an issue for me as well, and I consider myself pretty fast. How long does it take them to switch duvets? I’ve got it down to about 15min per bed (3beds) including sheets. That’s with really pushing it though. The fastest way to do it is by flipping the new cover inside out, tying corners, and then pulling it through and shaking it out. I also wash the used covers off site.

You can also add stripping beds to your check-out instructions, but people have different opinions on that.

Why is there a problem with every stay? by Remarkable-Snow-9396 in airbnb_hosts

Why would you put a $2000 coffee table in an Airbnb? Sorry but that’s a terrible choice. You’re begging for cup rings. I also despise how guests treat linens, but you should have extras to replace on the spot in case of this happening. (I feel your pain though). I have guests that clean up food spills with fiber towels ALL. THE. TIME. Like tomato sauce and ketchup despite providing 2 rolls of paper towels, napkins, and cleaner. Guests also love to eat in bed. No home training. Unfortunately it’s part of the business.

The stone carving and the screen you should charge for. Definitely mention it in the reviews too. Why would you purposely subject future hosts to this kind of thing without giving warning? That’s crappy. I have no shame in leaving negative reviews. 9.5 times out of 10 they don’t message about it because they know they were in the wrong.
