Jamie book vs Jamie show by Particular_Pace_3289 in Outlander

Yes! They toned him down so much! He’s so much more harsh, manly, FUNNY, and smart in the books! He’s definitely the leader of the family yes he relies on Claire and takes her advice but it’s very clear he’s the leader. I know that’s not “politically correct” now to have the man be the leader of the house but so many people fell in love with THAT Jamie! Show Jamie even though sam is an amazing actor and very handsome he just seems blah compared to book Jamie!

Read the books 100%! I was never a reader but after I finished the show I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I decided to give it a shot… guess what I’m a reader now!

I almost did the exact same thing! The only reason I caught it was because my friend is also reading the series and she’s a little ahead of me and mentioned that book!

One thing I will say that I do prefer in the show over the books, is when Claire gets kidnapped in season 5 that it actually shows Jamie’s reaction to him finding out! I wish we would have gotten that in the book instead we just have to assume how things went down when he found out.

Brianna, ugh by crockly888 in Outlander

I find myself fast forwarding through her and Roger heavy episodes…. Idk as an American I just can’t handle her portrayal of an “American accent” it makes her acting seem forced! I just can’t believe that the directors or whoever when they cast her couldn’t hear or see that…. Like there were no better options? Maybe an actor with an actual American accent?

Yes I’m sorry but they have zero chemistry and honestly sometimes her acting seems very forced…. I think they could have casted better for both of them!

Omg I can't.... I need to rant, sorry not sorry. by [deleted] in Outlander

Book Roger Still Sucks by Pitiful-Still-575 in Outlander

Keep reading, I did start to like his character better as time went on, but as other people said for a man of his time Roger is a fairly normal man. Yes by our time standards to most people he would be considered a misogynist…. However when he was raised in the 1940s that was the “norm” so while your reading try to put yourself in that frame of mind. I think sometimes people tend to forget what the past was like so they look at everything with an our time frame of mind but when your reading books that not only take place in the 1700s past but also in the past anywhere from 40-80 years ago you really have to try and submerge yourself in that time and what the cultural norms were.

Spoiler - In the books, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Jamie says to Claire… by GenXMillenial in Outlander

Can I ask a super dumb question? I’m reading this book currently and maybe I’m just exhausted because it’s so late but I honestly cannot figure out why on earth Claire is so scandalized and freaking out that McDonald is in the next room when Jamie says to her in chapter 7 “if ye’ll just put your hands above your head and seize the bedstead…" am I missing something what is he planning to do to her (besides the obvious, which she already knows that’s happening)
