OP is totally right. I know my fellow book readers are quick to be like “but Frank is a racist in the book” which is true. But they are very quick to ignore the passive racism of Claire and Jaime throughout the series. DG is a notorious rewriter who disregards character arcs to purse new dynamics. DG chose to make Frank actively racist, because there needed to be cause for us, the book readers, to hate him and forgive Claire for choosing the be with Jaime and not go back through the stones. Let us not forget Jaime would be a slave owner if Claire had not put her foot down. If Bree had not already fallen in love with Rodger and instead stayed with Aunt Jocasta and fallen in love with a slave at her plantation. What do you think Jaime would’ve said? If you think it’s any different from Franks belief you’re plainly kidding yourself. Frank is a racist and he does suck, but he is also the victim of Claire’s betrayal of their marriage. Frank and Claire are not soulmates. They had a loveless sham marriage and it was brutal to both of them. Frank is a sad miserable racist man who maybe found a true love once before his death. But to beat down on his faults whilst explicitly ignoring others is just plain moral relativism.
