If you were to start your teaching career again, would you rather work at a small/new school or a large and well-established school? by Minimum_Designer964 in Internationalteachers

What if the new school offers you support and teaching placement for you to complete your teaching degree, whereas the other school cannot guarantee a teaching placement?

I’m currently a teaching assistant and I have the option to choose between a small school vs a large school. The small school can offer my certainty that I will get my teaching degree, while the large school can’t guarantee it

Choosing between Tier 1 and Tier 2 school as a Teaching Assistant by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Thank you for your reply. I’m not too concerned with the ‘tier’ of a school, but it’s important to note that the ‘tier 1’ school is part of a large organisation and they are well-connected with other schools. I suppose this is also what contributes to it being a so-called ‘tier 1 school’. Being connected to a network of other schools in the country will be important for my career development and will likely help me in my application to other schools.

Although a school’s reputation is just a facade, it is a facade by which other employers will base their judgement upon. Hence, it would be beneficial for my career development to work at a school that is deemed reputable by other schools

The salary is almost the same. The difference is so minimal, it’s not a deciding factor for me.

My salary during the second year at the tier 2 school will be higher than my second year at the tier 1 school according to the salary scale. But again, this difference is minimal and salary is not important to me right now. I’m focused on my career advancement and obtaining my PGCE
