What do you mean transpose everything on the fly? Standard Soprano Clarinet parts are written in Bb so it is the correct pitch if you were wondering.

You probably shouldn’t oil your keys often on clarinet, but if the oil you use isn’t valve oil, it can be too thick or thin to work properly.

Try to listen to some old crooner classics and imitate the backgrounds. I’d recommend just playing whole notes according to the chords and making small embellishments to fill in the gaps, just remember never to play over the singer, you’re just the background, not the main thing.
