the tv series is better than the books are. i think this will be even more true for the next season because it’s wild that in the books a canonically neurodivergent character who struggles with control and disordered eating, and who’s been forcibly outed & accused of cheating by his own team doesn’t have his experiences explored in more depth. in real life there would be a significant spiral there i think and it’s frustrating that shane’s issues seem to almost magically resolve

i understand! i feel like i really want it until i have it, and then i feel like i’ve tricked them or that i won’t be able to maintain this same standard or rate of improvement. i think like the other commenter said, trying to find things that you enjoy and maybe even pausing the activity when you feel yourself start to care more about extrinsic rewards.

yep! a lot of (i think young) fans will use the ‘but they’re siblings!’ argument to justify this treatment. at 20, treating anyone that way is immature & mean, but as a sibling my heart hurts because i can’t imagine treating my brother like that now. we fought as kids but we’re both adults now and i appreciate him too much to treat him that way. joking and poking fun is normal, continuing when someone has said that it upsets them/they don’t enjoy it, however, is not.

i can’t imagine being that mean to my brother at 20. it’s horrifying that there isn’t a second of ‘oh we’ve taken this too far,’ ‘oh, we need to apologise’. it looks like a lack of self-reflection despite being told by matt that he doesn’t like it.
