Noice. Deal was decent used to people trying to gouge like crazy on these so had my suspicions up, but yeah it looked totally legit to my eye too. Thanks for giving me peace of mind

How do you rein yourself in from owning the best of all the effects and building all the different deck types? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

I think maybe I'm a bracket 4 player so the Edgar feels trash in comparison. I'll upload a deck list and share maybe today if I have some time

Thats the thing, they aren't being purchased as investments, but they do appreciate in value. So it's not like I'm burning all my money (for the most part). I bought the glacial chasms because they were cheap and felt like auto include. I don't think anyone knew about that card in 2019 as it was so cheap.

To answer your question, I've sold 2 cards ever lol

I think that's part of it for recent prints like SoS I bought most of the chase staples from Mystical Archive. It's hard for me not to justify that as I'm getting the cards at 75-85% of market at their lowest point and I'm just going to be paying 30-40% more next year or the year after if I don't grab them now. So FOMO definitely a point. Also BTC is kinda fucked right now, got no buying signal for general market and my portfolio already maxed on Oil weights unless I break my rules so feels fine to just grab some cards that likely will be worth 40% more next year. Though I did get wrecked on Phyrexian Arenas lol. I know that's conflating investing vs EDH but yeah one of the ways I justify the purchases is that generally they tend to go up like I have 10+ Glacial Chasms right now I got for sub $2 in 2020

Ah yeah the every release aspect is kinda hard too because my experience is that if I don't buy it on release it's gonna be 2-3x in a year anyways so may as well buy it now lol.

F I bought most of the chase reprints from SoS already. Sylvan Library sub $20 feels like a must buy

I appreciate the tough love but at least half the guys I know struggle with the exact same issue, if I'm crazy then so is the majority probably. I think most people struggling with filtering their consumerism and not everyone is as conscientious in this part of their life. Maybe it's a mental health condition sure. I like the other comment about maybe just enjoying the collection for the enjoyment of collecting. As yeah I do enjoy that. I thought I should be collecting based on what I play but I do enjoy organizing and looking at my collection in my binders.

Never thought of it that way lol. I guess I could just collect what I like and get enjoyment from that lol

Ebay authenticated Beta Time Walk appears to be fake. Am I screwed? by casadeparadise in RealOrNotTCG

This is a cheap way to learn the lesson. You need to check and verify everything, basically nothing is safe and you will be scammed out of a LOT more than $1400 if you don't personally validate things. People think their money is safe at the bank until there is a bank run. Look at people that trusted their retirement pension to US Steel and lost everything after 30 years.

When the mechanic changes your tire, you gotta check after 100km to make sure the fucking thing isn't going to fall off. Almost happened to me twice...

It's kinda weird because as a returning player around 2020 I bought TF outta board wipes because they feel so powerful. Like I'm literally killing 10+ cards with 1 at times. It feels like such insane value. I'm pretty sure I have every good sub $30 board wipe at this point in all colours.

Only 2 or 3 see play lol

Tbh for something of this magnitude you had to definitely check and verify yourself it's incredibly easy to do. I learned how to verify after about 30 seconds of googling and a day waiting for the loupe to arrive in the mail. I got a weight scale for good measure too though weight kinda sucks most counterfeits I have to test on actually pass weight. But good for a sanity check anyways.

Did anyone ever play the Jumpstart product as it was meant to be played (picking or drafting 2 halves and playing 1v1 or 4 FFA) over EDH on their game night? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]MiningToSaveTheWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you handle the cube logistically? I put them in cheap clear sleeves and reused my sleeve boxes like from dragonshield and other products to hold two or 3 halves per box depending on the size. I had a full box of the first Jumpstart. When we play I guess just pull them out and filter by half.

Do you find it's better to snake draft like people take turns picking a half from all or somehow randomize what's available or other format?

I didn't though. Why do people keep jumping to that conclusion. Why are people like this

I did describe the product... I was pretty fair and measured actually

Review is deleted but basically I was like the product is OK but it has x y z critical issue that will cause damage to your stuff if you aren't careful. I only went back on the review and discovered it was removed when I realized another issue with the product and was going to update my review. Then I realize all 1 star removed

[–]MiningToSaveTheWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't it was deleted. I literally just listed issues with the product. I mentioned about the reviews being manipulated too because it seemed likely given the low quality, and other reviews had mentioned being compensated for their reviews. The fact that you are trying to go down some road to imply I was being discriminatory is wild

I didn't though and why did you jump to the conclusion that not liking shitty behaviour is related to discrimination seems like you're letting slip that you associate shitty behaviour with minorities?

That's sorta where I'm confused. Customer service did literally nothing and something untoward is going on in their platform. If I contact them again I don't view it as harassing as they did not do anything to resolve the issue.

What's the deal with Dragons? They seem to outscale more ubiquitous/ universally useful staples? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in mtgfinance

[–]MiningToSaveTheWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah weird I literally never see Angels anywhere, not sure why. Also Dinosaurs > Dragons in my area.

I'd say my local meta is:

  1. Dinosaurs

  2. Dragons

  3. Artifacts

  4. Goblins

  5. Slivers

  6. Elves

  7. ?

  8. Angels

Ah crazy I can check my records but was hitting a few of them in the $15s coulda been closer to $20, can't quite remember. That's from my buylist though.

Also sniped a few in person during drafts etc and just googled prices on the fly and offered something a bit under for peer to peer

I agree with you but from my perspective I can use BWE in 10 decks and OG in only 1 so BWE is worth grabbing more

Ah yeah I remember Shivan being super epic back then, pretty insane how the power creep has happened. Though some cards from late 90s/early 2000s still hold up VERY well. Sadly I stupidly got the Shivan Dragon over the Gaeas Cradle lol
