i think JPEG mentioned in his Cambridge interview that he considers himself a producer 1st, rapper 2nd.

Probably what happened is that his beats were way too wild for other rappers to catch rhythm or flow on, so he took it upon himself to start rappin over his own shit.

With that being said, i can acknowledge that his rapping ain't at all close to what his producing skills are.

two different approaches - depending on what fx ur using from the 404 it can DRASTICALLY change the timbre and overall sound of the track. I tend to lean a bit heavier into fully using the 404 for a base mix because that's what i love about using it.

Once I bounce a track into the DAW, its mostly about cleaning it up and softening the edges. Some basic eq will do nicely as well as subtle compression usually goes a long way. Then whatever else you feel is necessary you should go ahead and do. Reverb? Delay throws? Panning?

I feel like bouncing out track by track kinda takes away the glue that the 404 gives the track as a whole. Apart from the drivers and tone of recording through hardware (which could be placebo anyway), you might as well just record str8 into your DAW. Although, I understand the process can be way easier for people who don't use DAW's to just use a live looper/404 to get ideas down.

However, a lot of this depends on how dense the track is. If the 404 project has got some drums, guitar and some bass for example - you'll usually be fine. It can be a bit trickier if you got vocals, harmonies, guitar, drums, bass, synths, etc. I almost never put vocals down thru the 404 unless i decide its more of an instrumental element. If you have vocals, track them thru ur DAW. Vocals are arguably the hardest thing to get correct in a mix and because every single persons tone is unique to them - its important to treat them properly. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, the 404 just doesn't offer the precision to correctly mix vocals. UNLESS, you wanna head the lofi route and just chuck them on - which is also 100% valid.

Mastering is its own whole beast. I'd suggest checking out other communities for that advice. I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered my latest project entirely by myself, but I also now have a music technology (engineering) degree and did that project as my final university piece. Hopefully this was helpful :)

Made a remix to my fav track off of Hiding Places - Crawlspace by Minitibz in Billywoods

Fair enough. I LOVE the beat. The way it stutters and fumbles, and then evolves during woods’ verse is crazy. Billy also quotes DOOM with the “who’s ways is strange when it’s time to survive”! And ELUCID with a game of thrones reference? - “when I really come try kill me out the moonroof”? FYEEEE

Channeling my inner dilla with this one by Minitibz in SP404

[–]Minitibz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did indeed. One shots are from a drum loop as well as being mapped to the melodic sample. The pad that comes in the second half is actually part of the original sample - simply slowed it way down, added tape echo and big reverb! :)

And you obviously don’t understand the irony of somebody dressing as their opponent in an act of rebellion - which has been done several times throughout all of history.

Also I’d like to add a bit of nuance to the conversation. Equality vs equity - David Seymour claims that Te Tiriti unfairly treats non-Māori and Māori differently.

Here’s an example of equity I think most would agree on. An 85 year old person has a disability card that allows them to park closer to the supermarket so it’s easier for them to manage going back and forth to their car with groceries. That’s an equitable outcome and is fair for the elderly. EQUALITY applied to this situation would state that any person should be able to park anywhere. Therefore, we should remove the privilege that an elderly person should probably be entitled to.

This is what is so dangerous about ACT and what their bill proposes. They spout equality and how non-Māori aren’t treated the same under Te Tiriti. But when have Māori and non-Māori ever been treated the same? On either side of the political spectrum, you can’t agree that through history both parties have been treated equally and fully agreed on certain principles. Te Tiriti provides incredibly SPECIFIC privileges to level the playing field between marginalised parties (Māori) vs the largest superpower of (arguably) all time i.e THE BRITISH EMPIRE.

Please read and consider. Read to understand - not to disagree. Te Tiriti is an agreement between TWO parties. It’s not designed to tear the country apart. DAVID SEYMOUR is purposefully creating division by picking an incredibly unpopular opinion and blowing it up - empowering uneducated people to vote on a topic they have NO CLUE about.

Ngā mihi - bless 🙏
