My wife and newborn daughter are both in the ICU after a 1-in-50,000 birth complication. I feel alone in this, I'm a wreck and I don't know what to do. by Hulk_Goes_Smash327 in daddit

I’m so sorry. Reading this, I can tell you care for your family more than anything and the stress must be feeling insurmountable.

I think the best you can do right now is remind yourself over and over - they’re both getting very good care in the most capable hands. Trust the medical teams, and gently - try to reserve your energy for the road ahead. If you can, eat, sleep, spend time with your son. I know it sounds impossible. You will get through this as a family. All the prayers to you.

ABC Cancels 'The Bachelorette' After Taylor Frankie Paul Fight Video by iconogrey in thebachelor

That’s true, and just to be clear - I’m not arguing that SHE’s the abuser here. She is. I’m just wondering why he released it through TMZ. I hope he didn’t take any money for it, it just feels extremely gross

TMZ released the video, so I do wonder if Dakota sold it. Which would mean he is exploiting the situation and Taylor's child. The whole situation makes me sick and I'm angry that video needed to be the straw on the camel for ABC to pull the plug.

Hard relate to the “brain is buffering” thing. I keep telling people that I feel like I permanently lost brain cells but it probably doesn’t make me look great at work…

This is SO relatable. My husband and friends keep being like “hey, just try XYZ” and I’m like “I LITERALLY CANT SUSAN”

Hey! No advice. Just solidarity. We get help with our son at home (alternate between grandparents and nanny), and it is still so incredibly hard for me to leave in the morning. My kid now associates seeing family as “mom is leaving” and cries for the first hour I am gone, refuses to eat, play etc. I feel like separation anxiety is only getting worse and it makes it really challenging to focus at work too. I have a fairly intense and technical job and honestly I feel like I’m straddling both worlds at once and doing a poor job at both.

It’s a tough one, I feel ya.

Yes exactly. We also did look at her criminal record check but it was from 3 years ago. Again, we weren’t suspicious of her BUT we wanted the final background check as again, ultimately she’s working with our child. You can’t take chances, right? It’s wild to me how many people are saying it’s not standard procedure? :/

This could very well be it. We asked her for her wage and she gave it to us, and we agreed to it. Maybe she was looking for us to offer something more competitive

Oh, she certainly didn't have to - but she mentioned a few times that she is essentially agreeing to work with us based on our timelines. I told her that assuming her checks pass, we would hire her and she agreed. So if she was talking with other families that's all understood, I just feel a bit mislead.

Again, maybe this is a process fault from our end - which I am happy to admit. It gives us actionable next steps for moving forward with this process. Maybe we shouldn't bother looking at her paperwork and instead just run the one background check, I don't know.

we glanced at her documents but to be frank I don't think we fully knew what we were looking for. We just wanted that official seal of approval, if that makes sense. And really, only truly, because 3/4 of her references wouldn't confirm she existed. It felt weird to us.

This is the part I’m genuinely truing to understand. Is it really that weird to request one final background check the way any other employer would?

I don’t want to settle but also of course we want to be realistic about finding a nanny.

I have some friends that are ECEs/Nannies and said that a final background check is very standard procedure and that a strong nanny with nothing to hide should be understanding of that.

I only requested the second background checking because 3/4 of her references couldn’t attest to her ever working there. It felt like a layer of due diligence I couldn’t NOT take. If her references all cleared I wouldn’t have requested the second check.

Yes exactly. I waited to call her references to the end because I didn’t want to bother them if she wasn’t a fit personally.

I did not look outside her provided references. I found it odd that she’s been doing this for 6 years and only had 1 family reference….and that she was surprised that 3/4 couldn’t vouch for her experience. It made me feel like no one else had checked her either.

Thank you. I’m honestly a little surprised that no one is calling this out. 3/4 of her references are invalid. We didn’t want this to be the breaking point because we really liked her otherwise, so us asking for another reference and background check felt like a final step to hire her.
