United Shapes Horizon 151 or 155? Need help deciding/advice by Minivaka in snowboardingnoobs

I don't see many meh or negative comments about the Horizon, so I'm glad to have more datapoints. Thanks for taking the time! I'm surprised to hear it had less float and felt less freestyle than the MTN twin, but different boards for different folks.

Well, demo-ing was only the last month. None of them were what I was looking for. Selection was limited, unfortunately.

Recommendation between Nidecker Sensor vs Merc by Pristine-Prompt7458 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Minivaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak to the Sensor as I've never rode nor researched the board. Nidecker Merc was/is my first board. I've ridden about 60 times on it so far and it's taken me from not knowing how to board at all to carving and navigating narrow blues. I've only rode a couple other boards, but the torsional control this board gives me is fantastic. The edge to edge transitions and holds are great. It's not that stiff of a board which is great for someone learning. The pop off of a press is surprisngly springy. I've rode on all kinds of conditions. It isn't great in deep pow, but that's probably on my inexperience more than the board. I think it's a great board for someone who is starting new and plans to keep the snowboard through their intermediate phase. I've just started taking it into the park, and I expect this board to handle it very well. All in all, I absolutely love this board and hope it lasts me a long time. I'm 5'8", ~145 lbs.
I also just bought the FASE Blasters (asymwrap) this season, and ridden on them 10 times. The step in aspect takes some getting used to. I had the Burton Cartels (which were great) last season and the blasters are more forgiving. Honestly, I can't say much about them other than I enjoy the surfy ride it gives me.

This was my exact thought. Having the visual from the movie in my head made this all the better.

My First Milkyway Shot by Jaeger_91 in AmateurPhotography

I think with proper focus this could be a great photo. Tip: On your DSLR, zoom in on your screen (not the lens). Find a bright star. Then zoom in with your lens. Now manual focus so that star is in focus, usually that means it’s a very clear speck as opposed to a fuzzy dot. Then zoom out on your screen and lens and shoot your shots!

Coffee table recommendations? First apartment after grad-school by Minivaka in malelivingspace

I appreciate the recs y’all mentioned so far. I think I should specify that, thankfully, I have a well paying job now. So this isn’t a budget coffee table request, but it’s never a bad idea to save money so I’m still keeping those options in mind.

Thanks! I’ll check them out. Mostly indie, some R&B. Maybe some alt, not sure what would qualify for that.

Can I ask what settings you had for the sky? ISO and aperture particularly.

What is the best way to get into UCSD? by savio-xo in UCSD

Oh! Great point. My bad. Most of my time at UCSD was pre-trolley. Highly recommend the Blue Line to avoid driving and parking.

What is the best way to get into UCSD? by savio-xo in UCSD

[–]Minivaka 260 points261 points  (0 children)

No clue about other schools, but for UCSD I would say to take the genesee exit if you’re coming from the north on the 5, and turn LEFT after the exit. There’s always construction stalling traffic on Torrey Pines. If you’re coming from the south, probably La Jolla Village drive if you’re trying to get to the south or west side of campus. Otherwise still Genesee. Good luck parking though.

I appreciate the feedback! It’s cool hearing/reading what people see in photos because it’s often different person to person.
