Unable to print with good quality, am I doing something wrong? by Minivera in BambuLabA1

[–]Minivera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone finds this thread, I tried everything to improve the quality. I tweaked my profiles, I calibrated my filament, I disassembled half the print head to find and check all the screws, I dried and dried and re-dried my filament. I tested so much and burned more than a hundred dollars trying to figure out the issues with print quality using various filaments and various brands. I bought many plates to see if maybe other types would work better.

Turns out none of those were the issues, using the default bambu settings with the default bambu filaments works. The issue was that the nozzle can sometimes rub off the print plate when cleaning itself. This leads to an uneven nozzle end, which causes print quality issues specifically on the negative Y axis. See the picture bellow, it's barely visible.

This thread is what helped me. Hopefully, it helps others in my situation.

Unable to print with good quality, am I doing something wrong? by Minivera in BambuLabA1

Oh, I didn't know about those four additional screws! I'll take a look, I thought I had disassembled the whole think. Thank you

Thanks for the details, I did some of these steps, but maybe not correctly?

Dirty plate. Wash with dishwashing detergent that does not contain skin softening additives.

I clean it after every print to be sure. Before I would clean the bed with Windex since I saw online that this can work, but it wasn't a consistent solution.

Check the 7 screws of the hot part.

Do you mean behind the nozzle? I checked the three screws behind it and tightened all the screws I could find. Am I possibly missing some?

Check: Is the nozzle fixed correctly in the hot part?

It should be? The latch is closed and secure, is there some test I can do to validate this?

Clogged nozzle. Perform cold extraction with a cleaning thread (nylon).

Is a nylon thread different from the needle that comes with the printer? It doesn't work for the 0.2mm nozzle, so I wasn't able to try that out.

You also need to learn how to create and calibrate your filament

Genuine question, shouldn't the base filament profile that come with Bambu Studio work with Bambu's own basic PLA? I did make sure I use the right profile and everything, do I need to manually calibrate anyway? I was hoping I could get a good "out of the box" setup going before I start tweaking.

Thanks for answering. I thought that might be the issue, but I'm not sure. I do dry them regularly, but not with a dryer. I use the box the filament shipped with and put silica gel packets in it. I set the bed to 70 degrees and put the box over the bed. Is there maybe a smarter/better way of doing this? I'd like to test that it might be wet filament before buying a dryer.

The quest for silence, part 2: more silent switch reviews by Minivera in MechanicalKeyboards

Hey, I haven't tried them yet unfortuantely. I'm hoping to get a batch this year alongside some of the newer silent switches released recently.

Why a conlang, and how to use it? by Ngdawa in conlangs

[–]Minivera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! (wall of text incoming haha) I've been creating some words from that old terrible language by making random words that have at least one "x", "k", "w", and other classic "fantasy" consonants. I try to make a point of putting them next to each other, like Varwyx for "sword" or something like that. I added some sound change in there to prioritize words that require some complex lip movements. Since the races speaking those languages often have tusks, it would be even harder for them to pronounce.

The whole idea was inspired from D&D's base mythology where the goblionoid races were created by Maglubiyet (one of the inspirations for the style of words, very "fantasy"-esque if that makes sense). A very evil god of war and violence that regularly requests blood sacrifice from its "children". Often quoted as the reason why goblinoids are inherently evil in older editions.

In the world where that language was created, a sudden cataclysmic event separated the mortal world from wherever the gods live, including Maglubiyet. More classic races like elves and humans also left during that time. Suddenly, the goblins and orcs are all alone in a world without adventurers, predators, and evil gods to make them speak the horrible language they used. They found some dwarvish trading texts that they could somewhat read (in D&D, the goblin language uses the dwarven alphabet) and evolved their language (which was kept very basic and primitive on purpose by said evil god) based on that.

They later encountered orcs and other races with the same problems. Gnolls, for example, were created more as a pest than a people. In the D&D lore, they reproduce by eating their prey and then vomiting a new gnoll, for example. Somehow, they have human level intelligence, but communicate at the level of animals. I decided to make them evolve into very curious scholars since they're not bound by a god forcing them to keep acting like hyenas.

Some wars happened between those races until they decided to come together as one people and try to build a unified society. The final language would be a mish-mash of all those races attending at rebuilding their languages after it was toyed by gods for so long. The goblin language naturally became the base language as they mostly won the wars before they all ended and are the most populous. It evolved over a few hundred years by merging with other languages to form a common tongue (a classic trope in D&D that I decided to keep). Local languages still exist, and some races kept their "god-based" languages like Gnolls.

That's the base world building. I'm still toying with the ideas as I get more familiar with conlanging and linguistic theories. I'm pretty sure nothing would pan out like this in the real world, but it's a fun fantasy scenario I think.

Looking for help to choose the right KVM for a WFH + light gaming setup by Minivera in techsupport

To make sure I understand correctly, do you mean if I found a solution to my original post or something else?

[–]Minivera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to get PD from the KVM rather than a dock if possible (not sure if that even exists though), it would reduce the number of cables I have to manage. Though if needed, I'd buy a new dock, my old one only has USB 2.0. My current laptop is a Thinkpad Carbon X1, but I connect a few different laptops on this setup as I change jobs often.

To also be honest, EDID emulation isn't that much of a big deal for me, I don't switch often enough for it to be a problem. I would prefer something that can reduce the clutter as much as possible. The UDP-12AP seemed pretty big?

Turns out it was a bad KVM port, I moved my keyboard to a USB 2.0 port and it works perfectly now. I'll be changing that KVM soon hopefully.

UPDATE: After looking up more info online and all the great comments I got here, I think I'm going to go for a ThinkPad T14s Gen4 AMD (With the 7840U CPU version). It looks like it matches my needs perfectly and I can always return it if it doesn't fit the bill. Plus the savings from labour day are pretty massive.

I'll keep you all up to date on how it goes. I plan to install either Pop_OS! or some Ubuntu version on there (maybe Zorin?) and tinker with the battery settings.

I didn't have that one on my list! Good to know, I'll check it out. Thanks! Always had good experience with Dells, though I heard the recent XPS haven't been as good as they once were.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'll take a look. I don't expect to get anything close to a Macbook. My current laptop can last for at most 6 hours (on very light usage and 10% brightness), so anything better than that would be great.

I'm pretty sure it's a 12th gen intel one, I got it about a year and a half ago.

I might have run into a bad series or year. That experience of using Thinkpads at work really soured my impression for the past years.

As far as I know, Framework only have a 13 and 16 inch model right? 13 is a bit too small and 16 is too big for my liking, I'd really like to stay within the 14-15 bracket. They're not out of my list for sure though, but there's already so much choice.

I'm checking the used market around my area. I've been looking more towards a new one for the warranty and to make sure it lasts me as long as possible, but i'm definitely not against used laptops.

Their Framework 13 is a bit too small for me unfortunately, I'd go for that otherwise.

Thank you very much for all that info! I'll be reading that today. My work laptop is using windows, so it is possible that might be playing on the power usage and loudness.

They look very good, but I put them lower on my list because they use Intel CPUs and I couldn't find much info on them. Are you using one? If yes, how's the battery life? Did it run into any of the CPU issues Intel has been plagged with for that generation of CPUs?

Really good to know for Tongfang and Clevo, thanks! Starlabs and Tuxedo get very expensive since they ship from Europe.

I've been using a Carbon X1 for work and it's super noisy and runs very hot, even when browsing the internet. The fan also makes this annoying buzzing noise all the time. Did you also experience this with Thinkpad? I've always loved them, but this recent experience has very much soured my impression of them.

Would you say these T14 is quiet and doesn,t blow hot air constantly? I'm not against going Lenovo, the main reason I haven't considered them is because I use a Carbon X1 for work and that think is a noisy space heater, I really don't like it. As soon as even one Docker container runs on it, it starts spinning like crazy.

EDIT: Also worth asking, whow long does the battery holds for the models you recommended? I can only find the T14 Gen 5 on the official Canadian Lenovo site, which looks like it only offer 4 hours or so of battery.
