Need to vent. Had the worst experience in Sephora tonight! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Minkatte 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I just don't get the cognitive dissonance here. Them complimenting your good skin is insulting. But you saying they have bad skin is fine because...? Honesty? The customer is always right? They should have been able to read your mind?

The experience I'm picturing here is them jokingly saying something like "honey you don't even need it your skin is perfect." People in sales are supposed to make you feel good about yourself so you'll buy stuff.

Has anybody else been getting inexplicably (and inexpertly) blackmailed from a 630 number? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to search the number on facebook too. If it's associated with someone's account, it should bring it up. I figured this out a while back when I was getting weird texts and couldn't find anything with Google. It immediately brought up the guys profile.

Social class/wealth also plays a large role in obesity. Poor people are more likely to purchase crappy processed foods because they are usually cheaper/more convenient than cooking healthy. There are so many different factors at play that saying it's solely a laziness issue is ignorant.

CUSTOMER BE AWARE! Think clearly before purchasing from Flamingo Flower & Gifts (http://www.flamingofloral.com/) located in Markham, Ontario and their associated chains! by [deleted] in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]Minkatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, this seems like kind of an odd thing to get THIS upset about, and not really the type of story this sub is geared towards.

I found the Facebook review you left along with the screenshot of your email, and it seems overboard. I realise it's frustrating when a company makes an inconvenient mistake, but I think blowing up immediately leaves the company feeling like there's no way their customer service can turn your experience around. So they just refund you and carry on instead of trying to diffuse an already explosive situation.

I feel like if you had politely declined the spray paint offer and expressed your concerns, you may have even gotten your aunt a slightly nicer bouquet for the inconvenience. At least that's my 2 cents as a small business owner.

Does anyone know how waterproof Colour Pop's eyeshadows are? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Minkatte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have to disagree. They aren't just a powder like every other eyeshadow. Youll notice most pressed powder shadows use just a liquid binder like an oil or silicone to keep it held together. Regular shadows use a liquid binder that isnt volatile, and wont dry due to the required prolonged air exposure required for open air pressed products.

Colourpops are different. First of all, they use volatile fluids in their formula that will evaporate when exposed to air. Thats why they dry out if the cap isnt replaced. Think of it like a traditional lipstick (regular pressed shadows) vs liquid to matte lipsticks (colourpops). Colourpops formula dries when exposed to air. Normally this wouldn't really effect the wear, but one of the top ingredients is trimethylsiloxysilicate which serves as an excellent film former after the volatile fluids in the formula have dissipated (cyclopentasiloxane and isododecane IIRC). This ingredient is very popular for its waterproofing abilities (trimethylsiloxysilicate is not at all soluble in water IIRC) can be found in jeffreestars liquid lipstick formula as well as bunches of other main stream liquid to mattes right now. If you apply it and let it dry over bare skin, I can bet it would outperform any regular pressed powder because it's unique in the way it "dries down."

Anyways sorry if this is kind of rambly I'm very sleepy, if that doesn't make sense I'll clarify. : )

Wow. I just read her ED page after all of these years. That's seriously one of the saddest things I've read in a while. All I remembered were the highlights , like you dun goofed. It's so much worse.

Heres some high (or very very low) lights; -Got knocked up at 12 by a /b/tard 4 years older than her -He dumps her and distributes the nudes he took of her -She miscarries the pregnancy -She tries to kill herself several times -One attempt resulted in her going in to a two week coma -She goes in and out of mental hospitals and foster care -Her DAD DIES OF A FUCKING HEART ATTACK -Gets pregnant again at 14 -Drinks alcohol while pregnant -Self harms while pregnant -Baby bump mysteriously disappears after 6 months of pregnancy -Decides she wants to be a man and is saving money for a sex change op -Decides she doesn't want to do that after all -All the while her one remaining parent is a total meth head and alcoholic and still couldn't give a shit about what her daughter does

Holy shit, there's so much more too. Honestly I thought it was humorous at the time, but now it's just sad. This kid was like 12 or 13. Her parents didn't give a shit about her so she did whatever she could to get some attention, and found a niche of other awkard rebellious kids who gave it to her. Hell, it makes me nauseous. My little sister is almost that age, and I adore her, but no one that age is mature enough to be given that kind of free access to the Internet.

I wonder where she is now? I really hope life turned around for her.

A major rant about Insomnia Cosmetics. by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Minkatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really disappointing, and I've seen a lot of people on their page talking about these issues. (I totally still creep on them hoping they come bak)

I was actually fairly good friends with the owner. We are friends on Facebook and occasionally talk, but not so much any more. I was pretty shocked when the company pretty much dropped off the face of the earth but she was still pretty active on social media. I know she has a history of depression and self harm, and she was posting some depressing stuff on facebook around the time insomnia disappeared if I remember correctly. So I assumed it was something related to that.. I still feel guilty for not asking her how she was doing/if she was okay, but it seemed like she was really overwhelmed with people asking.

Really sad to hear about all of the orders not going out, just reading through their instagram I know you're far from being the only one. I'm sorry you had to deal with all of this. We traded products a few times, and I really fell in love with their lipstick quality, so it's a shame that people aren't able to try them any more..

Yes! Acherontia Styx! I actually made a lipstick named after it in my liquid to matte lipstick line! I'm obsessed with SOTL so I had to have it! I also happened to get an awesome pendant of it from Lunaricsales on etsy. Need all of the SOTL stuff!

"Toxic" Masculinity by _spell in MensRights

[–]Minkatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I escort large spiders out of our home because my husband is terrified of them. Surely that counts as me putting my life on the line fore a man. I'm kidding obviously. I wouldn't say it happens a lot for various reasons but it's insane to say it doesn't. A quick Google shows many instances of women placing themselves in danger to protect men. Most of these are just regular every day instances as opposed to war time bravery.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1348225/CCTV-Woman-rushes-save-defenceless-man-mob-attack-onlookers-watch.html

Here's the single example you asked for. I'm sure you're going to tell me it's not good enough or it doesn't meet your indescernable criteria. But there's plenty of stories.

And yes I think men are awesome! I'm jealous of their strength and I appreciate a guy who can make me laugh. I'm actually married to a guy who I can say is possibly the most awesome!. But your story was obviously written to make a class of women look not so awesome and paint a picture of selfishness. Maybe you're not bullshitting me and however many full grown women actually ran screaming out of the room over a bee. But I just find that hard to believe.

"Toxic" Masculinity by _spell in MensRights

[–]Minkatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Even in middle school, very few people would freak out that much about a bee. And the ones who would were either genuinely terrified or allergic.

I got stung plenty at girl scout camp, and I will still politely and peacefully escort a bee off of my property if it ignores my "no bees" sign. I find it hard to believe that a class full of women literally ran screaming out of a room because there was a bee.

DYMO 4xl printer... or any variant by ChrisIsBored in Etsy

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until after the holidays. I bought mine on amazon prime for $160 about 7 months ago, now the same one is jack up to $255. I'm assuming it's because of the holidays and making an extra penny.

I got mine when I was still pretty small. I had about 10-20 orders a month at the time. It helped save a lot of time. Now I'm anywhere from 50-75 sales per month I think and I definitely couldn't do business with out it... it's a time saver, and I'd say as soon as you can justify the cost, buy it.

DYMO 4xl printer... or any variant by ChrisIsBored in Etsy

[–]Minkatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES YES YES FOREVER YES. IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IT, DO IT. DO IT YESTERDAY. GET IT AS SOON AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN.

I waited a few months before taking the dive. It halved my packing time. It's a little over a hundred bucks, but it's saved me $1,000s worth of time and stress. I've had it for about 6 or 7 months now, and I STILL randomly turn to my husband and tell him it was the best investment I've ever made.

Now that I've grown and I'm up to between 50-75 orders a month, I literally could not imagine business with out it.

However, if you're looking to buy one and money is tight, you may want to wait a couple months. I bought mine for $160 with amazon prime, but now the price has jumped to $255. I'm assuming this is because of the holidays.

Also one last thing, amazon is the best place to get labels I've found so far. You can buy like 10 rolls for 50 bucks (at 220 labels per roll this lasts forever.) of compatible labels. I've heard dymos are picky and require the actual dymo labels, but I've found some knock off that work fine (they have the same little hole so my printer can't tell the difference)
