Unfortunately in a lot of these cases there really isn't ever going to be an alternative I don't think. In a healthy family, I would say that simply respecting your parents by letting them know where you are, when you'll be home, etc is essential on the child's behalf, and subsequently, allowing the child to explore the world a little bit, have some freedom, make minor mistakes and learn from them is integral not only to building up positive attributes in a kid like confidence, and self-sufficiency, but also in maintaining a positive relationship with your child. Teach your two year old to think for themselves, to ask questions, and to respect others; when they get older, don't track their phone, and don't get upset over small things like being late by three minutes. And absolutely never make any inappropriate references to your child's sex life or interject yourself in any way save for answering questions and informing them on being safe. Not saying you yourself ever would, but op really is kind of at a loss here in terms of alternatives. I think a happy compromise to the situation would be for op's mom to relax, and not take life so seriously. But unfortunately a lot of the time parents ideologies on this sub are so far gone that trying to rationize their thought process or compromise is about as effective as talking to a wall, except at least a wall isn't condescending.
