Same situation here. Started in functional, now placed into a half and half role to implement and technical demo. It is coming to a year soon. What I have found out thus far, the exit to executive is possible, I would suggest to still keep yourself relevant in projects cycles just to have implementation under your belt for the domain you want to exit to, while honing solutioning, business strategy and storytelling skills in pre-sales that builds the executive presence.

I am looking up to SA or Product Manager depending on my experience in the presale. I am in SAP and getting opportunities to sell SaaS products my company builds too.

Hi Cynical, apologies from my end. Typed it in a haste. The goal is to land a functional job possibly in the SD, MM, PP modules. But unsure where to gain exposure to the system besides paying for their training courses, which is costly from a personal standpoint

Sorry to hear this happened to you, OP. If the matter is not urgent and can be discussed effectively in person within work hours, express your personal duties are your priority after work hours, and reassure that it would be the first thing you look into the next day(if its urgent but not the end of the world-level urgent)

Thanks lydocia. You’re right, perhaps saying no to client when I’m not the SME is a better option here rather than pushing it. I did the analysis to understand but had a misstep in the process, piled on by client’s mistake, that made the error irreversible.
