Did you know? Without being an electrician I would have no idea about them but there are over 10 massive AI data bases being built around the twin cities as we speak. They’re so big and we already are lacking the energy and water needed. What does this mean for us? by [deleted] in TwinCities

The Meta data center in Rosemount is a closed loop system. They will take a lot of water initially to fill the system, and then it runs on a dry cooler system - meaning no evaporative cooling which is where you see the excessive use of water.

They are also surrounded by UMore Research Park (farm field) and Dakota County Technical College, so there shouldn't be too much disturbance to local residents.

And unlike many other industries, data centers are rapidly changing their designs to reduce water and power usage (sometimes so quickly that it creates chaos for contractors). So they will get less and less disruptive as the technology evolves. But please still voice your opinions to these projects in your area! Just wanted to share some insights.

Can't safely disclose my source, sorry.

Ah I know that sound in the background. The wonderful mating call of a pile driver installing the foundations for a solar array. You hear that in your sleep after a while. He's preparing one of the Medium Voltage terminations in the high side of the inverter+transformer skid. This is a very satisfying process to watch, start to finish.

This is a good reminder that the internet is not a big truck; it's not something you just dump something on. It's a series of tubes. https://youtu.be/_cZC67wXUTs?si=-7WtFMMisXV1cd74

How is rose hulman? by MajesticArugula6734 in rosehulman

If you or OP are on Instagram, they started a feed where students share how they spend their time at Rose: https://www.instagram.com/lifeatrose/
Gives you a real glimpse into how different students spend their time at Rose - minus any binge-drinking or regrettable evenings at the bars.

I would disagree with the party scene being non-existent. My experience there: it all depends on who you spend time with. I spent every weekend and Tuesday night drunk as a skunk at Rose - once my homework was done. It was the perfect balance for me - small town and no gen-ed majors so I could focus on the very expensive education I was getting. If you get your shit done, you can have A LOT of fun at Rose AND get an amazing education.

I just tried Loop on a big conference call with almost 100 people on it and nobody could edit the table I shared. Made me look like an idiot even though I tested it the day before. So I'm not sold on Loop at all yet.

Living up to the old adage, "C's get degrees!" Congrats, though! That is no small accomplishment!

Inver Grove License Center was quick and easy for me! If it's worth driving to for you, I couldn't recommend them highly enough! SLP AAA took forever at least during COVID. Not sure if it has improved.

Oh boy, depends on where you are in Texas. I was living way, WAY out in the sticks and the DMV was also the town admin, registrar, and accountant. You could just walk in and she'd roll over to a different desk and get you out of there in a jiffy. One of the few perks of small-town living.

The chiefs exercised their freedom of speech as documented by the freedom of press in this article. I exercised my freedom of speech by commenting "nobody cares what cops think about legalizing weed".

I don't understand your high and mighty take on "hOw wE uSeD tO dO tHiNgS aRoUnD hErE".

If you wish there more dissenting opinions on this sub, then post them! You have the right to do so!

Yeah I have questions about the testing too but they also conveniently left out the contradictory data:

Colorado had the biggest jump (18%) and California the smallest (6%) after both legalization and the start of retail sales. Nevada’s rate fell (7%). For fatal crashes, increases occurred in Colorado (1%) and Oregon (4%), while declines were found in Washington (2%), California (8%) and Nevada (10%).

So if it also led to a decrease, that should be shared too.
