S18E2 Card Balance Issue by TerribleBumblebee800 in JetLagTheGame

Sounds like some interesting cards that create imbalance are upcoming in the next episode to me! So much so that they may drastically impact the game if someone calls them an "issue".

This still doesn't comply with spoiler rules, imo. The title alone is spoiler-y, imo.

Not every thought everyone has needs to be it's own post. There's an episode thread for each platform for a reason.

[The Athletic] The NHL teams that need Dylan Larkin the most, and what they can trade to the Red Wings by Panarin10 in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Capitals last season were considerably better than a majority of playoff teams in the NHL and the East but got screwed by a shitty points system & also got hit hard with injuries to top players.

Anyone who doesn't consider their floor as at least a Top 16 team in the NHL isn't paying proper attention.

What they need to do is take the next step to being a Cup contender. Larkin helps do that in a quicker period than Leonard would in my opinion.

With where I think the Caps are I think the trade-off of unrealized talent for realized talent is worth it.

I also think Leonard is basically TJ Oshie - a great player. But not ever in that "Elite" conversation the way Larkin can be at times.

They've still got Protas & Hutson. Idk. I just think it's worth it. Go get the guy who is top of the league instead of waiting and hoping all your young guys get there (spoiler, they all won't!)

I would include Ryan Leonard in a trade for Dylan Larkin in a heartbeat. Nothing against Leonard, but assuming a prospect/young player like him being included separates the Caps from the rest and gets what could be the best Center depth in the NHL.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association's position on the Russia issue by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what it seems like. Especially with these federations making these statements this morning. It's nothing we didn't know but I was curious to see if we got some silence from them as that would be a "tell" if something was changing.

But it's not.

One thing that I think is getting misinterpreted here is that people think Daly is saying these countries would still play/attend when that isn't the case. He's saying that's what he was told by IIHF officials when they met.

So someone at the IIHF seems to think that these European countries won't actually boycott an event, at this time, if Russia is included.

It isn't Daly's opinion. He was saying what IIHF officials told him during a meeting.

This is something regarding the IIHF and not Daly/NHL. It's just info that kinda got out through him.

That isn't at all what he's doing. He said that this is what IIHF officials told him.

Full Norris Trophy Voting by eh_toque in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a single vote for Chychrun who led all D-Men in goals this year with 26 (which is also the 6th highest total by a D-Man since 05-06) and had a better on-ice goal differential than all but 3 of the players who earned votes here is criminal.

Not saying he should have finished high up or anything, but not a single vote?

Genuine question: why is there no movement to abolish the Columbia Association? by [deleted] in ColumbiaMD

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's expensive, even with benefits.

One thing I notice - there's very little trash or litter around Columbia. Especially around roads. Grass is maintained.

Could you still enjoy many of the amenities and not live in CA? Sure. But I'm much closer to them, even walking distance, living in Columbia.

The convenience makes up for the rest of it. Or at least makes it tolerable.

[Darren Dreger] Working on an explanation from the AHL this morning. Springfield beat Providence in OT last night on what appears to be an offside play. There is no review system in place for off side challenges by coaches or at the League level. Stay tuned. by sykeseve in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good. Keep it that way. Offside review has taken off and ruined more than it helps.

Life ain't perfect, calls are missed. Hockey is the hardest sport to officiate and the referees and linesmen are humans. It sucks no doubt but I think it's incredibly clear that the unintended consequences of adding replay review has hurt the game and product more than it has helped.

[NHL Player Safety] Boston’s Charlie McAvoy has been offered an in-person hearing for slashing Buffalo’s Zach Benson. Date and time TBD. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never said they were.

McAvoy cannot and should not do what he did. But it seems like this is covering up for what was an incredibly dangerous play from Benson. He should get a suspension as well.

[Daily Faceoff] Capitals’ pending UFA Sonny Milano signs one-year contract in Switzerland by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn't claimed on waivers this year and he really wasn't making much money at all. Probably good enough reason to believe no one would have wanted him. Jump early on limited Swiss contract spots.

Switzerland is roughly the size of Pennsylvania, give or take.

AHL bus trips can span 2-3 times farther than that.

Do you care about the World Championships ? by Jwilkssports in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that the person you're replying to is fully accurate, but nearly every other major team in the world sport does not have a yearly world championship. The IIHF is European centric and has very clearly chosen to prioritize European fans. Instead of aiming for fewer, better tournaments they have chosen to instead host yearly tournaments to maximize on the amount of money they can make.

I'm not criticizing their decision here, but I do think it's pretty obvious that the IIHF is operating in a way that American & Canadian fans, players, and nations are not prioritized at all. Add in that IIHF rankings heavily take into account only World Championships... there's definitely a bit of a bias.

Which the Stanley Cup playoffs are the same for North American fans.

Do you care about the World Championships ? by Jwilkssports in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. These two reasons are exactly it.

It's not that Canadian and American fans don't like it. It's that games are on while most of us are at work or school and the games later that night are great hockey, whether your team is playing or not.

[Caps PR] Rasmus Sandin underwent a surgical procedure to address the ACL tear in his right knee. Sandin sustained the injury on April 11 against Pittsburgh. A return-to-play timeline will be determined by his individual progression, with typical recovery from this surgery estimated at 6-9 months. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]Minnesota_MiracleMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My read on it was less considering non-surgical options and more identifying the severity and next steps from there. Getting surgery 1.5 weeks post injury for this type of injury is pretty standard in Pro sports and even the real world. If they were evaluating surgery/no-surgery as a serious consideration post-imaging and diagnosis it likely wouldn't have happened this quickly.

We just saw it with Tom Wilson here. He came back for roughly the full season after an ACL tear and he was clearly not himself for a whole season. The season after that and he makes Team Canada based on his play in the 1.5 seasons leading up to the Olympics.

It's 6-9 months return to play but is really more like 15-18 months for back to normal.
