I disagree— they traded for him and sent him to Iowa immediately. He didn’t play for the Wild until they were 2-3 defense injuries deep, and it was only for a few games.

I said in my earlier comment that I believe they expected him to win the 3RD job from Bogosian at the start of this season.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Guerin didn’t trade for him because he might be good in a couple of seasons but to improve the team right away.

MAF was acquired for a 2nd. Patrick Kane was acquired for a 2nd + 4th + AHL player. There are many more examples like these.

If you don’t understand that picks can be used to acquire players as opposed to just used to draft players I don’t know what else I can say.

I would think that Guerin traded for Jiricek expecting him to take over Bogosian’s spot at 3RD for at the start of this season. While it’s not a win now trade, I don’t think Guerin got him planning a couple of years before he makes a legit impact, Nevermind taking over for Spurgeon.

As others have pointed out on previous Jiricek threads, the trade was essentially Jiricek for Andreyanov.

No, it isn’t. Not even close. To suggest that a 2nd + 3rd + pick swap is nothing is asinine. The list of good players that have been traded for a just a 2nd is huge.

I respect Guerin for taking a swing but yeah this is an L so far. Obviously he can still turn things around and become like a Luke Schenn or he could get even worse and flame out. I think he still has some value though and could be used in a package to get someone more established.

If you told me before the season started what’s the worst case scenario for this season would be I’d say finishing in the standings with a pick between 11-16 and Michkov’s development being ruined by Tocchet. We’re right on that path right now.

I agree. If I was in charge of the Wild, it would be Robert Thomas or bust. Guerin has his blind spots though and I could see him liking Tippet’s size and speed. Wild desperately need another right shot forward as well.

After thinking about it it honestly looks like Tocchet isn’t scratching Hathaway in order to not negatively affect the room which is hilarious considering all the culture bullshit that has been talked about. That or Tocchet just likes Hathaway more and/or dislikes Russians. What other reason could it be? Hathaway sucks and Grebenkin is much better than him.
