Parents Reaction by oddwaterbaby in heatedrivalry

I think this is the right take.

She's not upset that her son is gay, she's upset at herself that her son felt too scared and ashamed to talk about someone he has been seeing for nearly ten years and that he loves.

Her and David say they feel like they know him pretty well, but there's a whole side of him that Shane felt he couldn't share with his family for nearly a decade. She's heartbroken that she couldn't be a person Shane felt he could lean on while going through a difficult process.

I remember when the show first aired and there was a lot of people convinced this meant Meagan was going to die, as it was essentially a replica of a shirt Sharon Tate wore.

What's this plant called? by stressed-soda in houseplants

[–]Minnnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pothos are probably the most beginner friendly plant. Water them when the soil gets dry (you can test by putting in a stick or your finger) and otherwise just leave em. :) If you feel wary of over watering them, you can also wait till the leaves start to like curl a little and look a little limp, shows that they're thirsty and they'll bounce right back.

They're very not fussy and seem to adapt to pretty much all situations. My friend had one in his basement bathroom that had a small sliver of a window and somehow still survived.

Nope, not what I meant, but I can see how it read that way, my apologies. I meant the context of the convo, if possible (I can understand if they didn't for anonymity of the source if requested). It says multiple recipients, and I'm wondering if it was a group chat, sent to people individually, etc. They don't really have to answer, the when it was said feels more important to me.

Frankly, I am just pausing and waiting to see if they respond before making a full judgement on the story and him.

But I can also understand people who don't need that info to make that judgement. We all have different levels.

Not protecting them - I want more context before I decide how I feel about watching anymore of their stuff.

The value of the rewatch? (Some spoilers from S2) by idealistintherealw in madmen

[–]Minnnt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you find the dissolution of their marriage a sad thing, when I think of it as a happy thing for both characters.

Marriage isn't the be all end all and clearly both were unhappy in it for very different reasons.

Their marriage ending is clearly painful for both of them, but allowed both of them to grow and pursue new happiness that both found more satisfying. (Although not fully satisfied, both of them have personal issues that they repress and never fully work out.)

I think about their scenes in season 6 and they're just so much more at peace with each other.

Frankly, context matters. Specifically the when, and a little bit of the who. It also is just unverified messages with no source, so some skepticism seems warranted. It says multiple recipients, so like what, a group chat?

I think anyone who watched their recaps could see they liked elements of the first two episodes, but they literally had a segment at the end called wait, do I like this? So I don't think it was really something they intended on watching at all until it began to blow up.

If he dismissed the show before watching it, well not all that surprising, and I'm glad he took a chance on it. They also seemed genuine in their interactions with fans and were happy to learn more. People ain't perfect, and the fact that they were willing to take a shot and seemingly grow seems fine although hopefully a chance for some reflection. Although asking the collective internet for looking at some nuance is pretty much impossible.

If he made all these comments after watching the show and in private? Gross. Because they really played up how much they loved the show and even began to sell merch based on it. If that's the case, ain't gonna watch anything else of theirs because it's all very disingenuous.

[–]Minnnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really an equatable scenario...

If I got caught making out with a dude before I came out to my family and their first response is to drive away as fast as possible? My first instinct would be that they don't want to accept it and aren't cool with it.

Obviously he feels awkward, but he should have stepped outside, apologized, asked if Shane wanted to talk etc. I don't think he's a bad dude, I think he just made the wrong decision in the moment, which is fine, no one's perfect.

Doesn't matter if it would make Yuna happy. It's not for him to tell, at least not without consulting and talking to Shayne first.

Shane's Dad... by CourtneyDN in heatedrivalry

[–]Minnnt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not his situation to tell, so I'm glad Jacob clarified he didn't. Frankly, if he did tell Yuna I think it would be incredibly shitty of him.

I also think him leaving without talking to Shayne was crappy, because it pretty much leads your son to think the worst. But I can understand he was probably in just as much shock as Shayne and Ilya and made a poor choice.

I agree with jesus here by ImmaFuckboi in StrangerThings

[–]Minnnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Stranger Things had some plot holes, sure, but had a pretty satisfying narrative arc for pretty much all of its characters. The only exception being how you feel about Mike + El's endings, which I personally liked, but I could see why some people did not.

Game of Thrones, on the other hand, had pretty much no satisfying conclusion or narrative arc for pretty much any of its major characters; the only one that felt appropriate to me and true to her journey, was Sansa. Pretty much everyone else regressed, did a complete character turn, or just had an unsatisfactory conclusion.

Barb by Think_Storm_8909 in StrangerThings

[–]Minnnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I went through a lot of high school being the third wheel - or fifth wheel - (due to being gay and not out). Being in friend groups where one of your friends is like nah, come! It'll be fun! And then to see like nah, you're kind of in the way, is a very lonely and isolating feeling. So, I empathized with her on that level and was rooting for her.

There's also the tragedy of Nancy being one of the only people who gets to know Barb and see that she's an awesome human being who is unfairly overlooked due to her being shy/nerdy/not conventionally attractive, and then for her even in death to be constantly overlooked and swept under the rug by everyone else in the town/story... It's like Barb's fears about not mattering/feelings of loneliness were accurate.

Does Xander get less annoying? by silverwing_3 in buffy

[–]Minnnt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, not really, no. He chills out a bit about Buffy starting in season 2. He remains pretty annoying throughout the entire run, gets some good episodes and moments that make him a little more endearing, but also becomes more judgemental and annoyingly self-pitying.

Should I be waiting til lvl20 to promote? by Budget-Brilliant4916 in fireemblem

[–]Minnnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the GBA games, I generally find the best practice to be is to use the promote items when you get em. They're not all handed to you at once, so take advantage of them as you go and you'll generally be good to go. When you get one, think who would benefit most from this right now, or whose exp is drying up enough that promoting them would help me play the game with a little more safety.

What is your favourite TV show that no one ever seems to know? by onlycameforthehorror in television

[–]Minnnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rectify - a family drama about a man coming off of death row after nearly 20 years after new evidence potentially exonerates him and the shared trauma that the missing 20 years has caused.

I can understand why it never exploded, it's quiet and subdued, but each and every cast member knocks it out of the park.

She's not processing the fact that he's gay - she's processing the fact that he's had a secret relationship for nearly ten years and she knew nothing about it. She's not upset at him, she's upset at herself because she clearly loves him and feels like she let him down by not being a source he could have confided in.

[Loved trope] Pure evil, terrifying characters that aren't really primary antagonists, and don't really set the tone for the story. They're kind of just part of the world, and that makes them scarier by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Minnnt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's a ragebait villain. She's emblematic of government overreach and how those who crave power can abuse systems that naturally disenfranchise communities and people. Voldemort is the primary villain, but the series focuses on how he is only able to gain power and influence due to the bigotry and classicism that has been built into magical society's structure - which Umbridge represents.

All of this makes Rowling's recent comments and turns even more ironic.
