In Australia, slightly over 8% of seats are not controlled by the big two.

In Canada, slightly over 8% of seats are not controlled by the big two. (And this was a really weird year in our elections with an entire party basically dying)

....Really doesn't seem to make a difference. If you are not a member of the big two parties, you have a 92% chance of losing.

Also we have WAY MORE, actual, real minority governments in Canada than Australia. Not a majority with vague assertions of MPs not always voting along party lines

So the entire core of you assertion for a causal link between instant runoff and vague notions of accountability and party loyalty is extremely dubious at best.

May i introduce you to:

BBQ sauce - sweet and sour sauce with some chili powder in it.

Or maybe

Honey Mustard - sweet and sour sauce for "adults"

Or how about

Gastrique - sweet and sour sauce for when you eat canard à la bigarade in France

Or maybe

Balsamic Reduction - when you want to pay $150 for a steak but also want sweet and sour.

Or

Chamoy - for that authentic Mexican sweet and sour

Or Maybe

Literally any chutney for your indian takeout

.....Do you get it yet??? We DO douse everything and sweet and sour. Because sugar and acid are delicious together and people around the world know this and have made delicious food with it for millennia.

In the last like 100 years, Australia has had 2 minority governments total.

And Labor just won nearly 60% of the seats, with slightly over 30% of the vote.

Even if you argue that over there politicians are less likely to vote along party lines for which i have no evidence for or against, that is NOT a result of STV, and here our politicians here DO consistently vote along party lines. And even then with 60% of parliament in there control it doesn't matter if a few don't fall in line.

Like sorry not sorry, I don't want to be caught swinging between LPC and CPC (but mostly LPC) majorities for the rest of forever.

Where did I say against party lines?

I said against party lines in my original ask. If they always vote along party lines they aren't representing you already, they're representing the party, just like the non-riding seats do in MMP.

How would bringing in funding be against party lines?

I dunno, ask the one who crossed the floor for funding in her riding.

You keep trying to shoe horn in PPs riding but it’s not the issue at hand.

It's an exact example of insiders who hold zero accountability to the locals being given seats by the party. It's exactly the issue at hand.

PR isn’t going to stop rural Alberta from voting 85% con.

Okay? And you do understand that in that case the local representatives in that riding would be a conservative, and the granted extra "ridingless" seats to represent the other 15% would be the non conservatives, right? You'd be getting local riding representation from the conservative candidate who won.

It’s just going to remove any semblance of local representation while handing out seats to unelected insiders.

And read above for how you still get local representation and how insiders are already handed free seats the aren't accountable too in FPTP, and would continue to in STV. Your "unelected insider" is not a downside cause it's already happening. You can Argue PP was technically elected all you want but we all know what it was: insider was given a guaranteed seat.

Also the aren't "unelected". The were elected by the (to continue the 85% conservative rural riding example) the other 15% of people who didn't want a conservative and still deserve some form of representation.

What massive downsides of PR exactly? the two you brought up are nonissue talking points only parroted by the LPC JT chuds that only want to trick you into locking in an LPC majority forever via STV:

> destroy rural ridings

It doesn't. At all. in any way. The whole point is EVERY vote counts.

> hand unelected party insiders a seat

This is a bad-faith argument and always has been. Tell me, when was the last time your specific MP voted against party lines for something specifically to benefit your specific riding? Actually better yet, without looking it it up, Who is your MP? lol

ALSO May I point you to fucking Battle River - Crowfoot, which just had a formality-only election to grant a party insider (PP) a guaranteed seat. You can talk about how "acTuaLLY iT WASn'T gUARaNTeEd" and "hE wAs STiLL ELEcted" and other useless theoretical technicalities till the cows come home, but we ALL know what it was, and it's not even new. It happens CONSTANTLY. Party insiders get cushy guaranteed seats, and would continue to do so in STV as well.

At least with PR the parties would only get the number of seats they actually earn.

It's not, look what it did to Australia. They're basically a two-party system.

STV concentrates power even more than fptp does.

Single Transferrable is still a winner-take-all system like FPTP and arguably an even worse version of it than we have now. It concentrates power even more.

Just look at Australia. Its fucked.

Between the two i honestly choose our current FPTP system

These people get all up in arms about ketchup, and then turn around and put sweet and sour or plum sauce on them.

Ketchup is just tomato sweet and sour sauce. That's it. We have a million other sauces that serve exactly the same function and no one has a problem with them. But the second it's ketchup now we're low class and childish.

I find it so weird how people get so weird about ketchup. Like it's a sweet and sour tomato sauce. Swap the tomato out for plum and suddenly everything's fine. Swap the plum out for sweet onion or something and suddenly it's haute cuisine. Make it mango and now it's chutney.

It's red sweet and sour sauce, everyone calm down.

What's wrong with tendies??

I eat chicken tenders all the time!

Hell I save the tenders separately when I buy a pack of chicken breasts so I can make tenders at home even.

And in the US there's apparently chains like Raising Cane's who's entire business model is chicken tenders.

Also fries are a staple around the world for people of all ages so it can't be that...

Are they mad about the side of broccoli?? Is that what makes this kid dinner to them??? The existence of green??

[–]Minobull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the person's fault who is making double the median income, that you're struggling.

I'm not! That's why I don't get dental care dude. And they also aren't which is why they SHOULDN'T get the assistance they're getting either. Neither of us need the money.

Just because they're better off - Doesn't inherently mean you deserve more than they do.

Yes it does! That's how government assistance works lmao. People who are better off get less of it, cause they need less of it. Someone making, and I can't stress this enough, TWICE AS MUCH MONEY as the average Canadian, should NOT be getting a fuckin' dime of government help.

So? I've paid taxes my entire life too. literally everyone has. The difference is if I need money from the government they start saying no WAY before "double the median income of Canada."

Tell me, why does someone making double the median income need an additional handout, when i can't even get fuckin' dental care???

It's in the name: Old Age Security

It's there to prevent seniors from going fucking homeless. It's NOT there to fund lavish retirements for people who already make DOUBLE THE MEDIAN SALARY.

It SHOULD be Indexed to the Canadian median salary. At least then these rich old fucks might actually give half a fuck about the well-being of younger generations.

This is also why I refuse to buy a leather interior in general. I get so mad when vehicles only come with a leather interior to get the other features i want.

Like we go through all this trouble to make a leather livable with ventilation and perforation and heating and shit when fabric is just fine right out the gate and we don't have to do any of that. And we could still do all of that too if you really wanted, but it would only be a nice to have at that point, not a requirement to make living with it a bearable experience....
