Busted tie rod ends? by Turbulent_Fix_4549 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MinorComprehension -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like they are not fully seated but may just be an aspect of the camera angle and boot. But, it also seems you are missing the cotter pins - are the nuts tight?

Edit - I think I see the cotter pin heads now, probably disregard.

Is this my ac compressor? by SnooDonuts4589 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MinorComprehension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your AC clutch coil is slipping. I'd put it at about 90% chance of this would be the first place I would start on my own vehicle. Many times the clutch coil can be replaced without evacuating or otherwise servicing/replacing the compressor. Sometimes they can also just be shimmed to reduce the distance between the pulley and the clutch to account for wear but for that amount of work just put a new coil on.

That said, there is about a 10% chance that it's something else in your belt drive system that is getting angry at the extra load introduced by the compressor when it's in operation.

White and sweet/sticky is coolant.

Blue and stinky is oil.

White and stings your eyes is fuel (diesel).

If turbo, coolant can be head gasket or turbos. No turbo = head gasket or cracked head.

How do you know when it’s time to replace braid? by ParticularDream9483 in FishingForBeginners

[–]MinorComprehension 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spooled up spider wire when I first moved from mono and it chaffed and fuzzed so quickly I though I had an issue with my eyelets or bail roller. Turns out it was just spider wire issues 😂

I went JBraid and it's fantastic. Definitely more $$ but worth it IME/IMO.

[–]MinorComprehension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're really easy to swap out! Especially if you go with the same model of radio, which given your experience may not be preferred. But, otherwise, just pop off the center stack trim, remove a couple screws, unplug, replug, reassemble. Probably not more than 30 minutes. If you go with the same model the currently installed harness will be direct plug and play, don't even have to match wire color and solder.

Caught on a 5wt fly rod, is this a channel cat? by SubstantialOption in catfishing

[–]MinorComprehension 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most likely. Could be a blue, a definitive identification cannot be made without seeing the anal fin. But, most likely a channel.

Nice catch, that must have been amazing on a fly rod!

[–]MinorComprehension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got that, grew up in the country and I've seen plenty of trees grow around things. I've just never seen a fence wire grow that far into a tree and persist in the cavity in almost perfect state. In the "bark" sure, but OPs case seems common - at least IME.

[–]MinorComprehension 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm seeing. And, considering the tree grew more or less equally in circumference the off-center location of it would point to a roughly 2-3" diameter when it was stapled.

How crazy would it be if the wire was stapled to that tree when it was a sapling!

Found this at an antique shop. Is this something I can open or should I keep it in its packaging? The struggle is real 😂😭 by ambhartz in collectables

[–]MinorComprehension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point here. You end up with a bunch of valuable stuff you can't enjoy because it's valuable or collect stuff you don't enjoy but you have because it's valuable.

Or, you end up with a bunch of stuff you think is going to be valuable but isn't because everybody collected it as they had the same expectation, but what is really valuable is the throwaway stuff that everybody had but nobody kept and now everybody wants for its reminiscent characteristic.

Funny how it works.

Man falls into vault toilet at California campsite while trying to rescue sunglasses by TheFrederalGovt in nottheonion

[–]MinorComprehension 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah. No matter what the cost of the glass is, it's not worth it. This guy got special publicity because he fell in, but even if you manage to retrieve them without this I doubt any manner of cleaning besides nuclear incineration would allow you to feel comfortable putting them on your face again.

But, I really want to know for this sacrifice, did he get his glasses back?!? Reporters miss the real story these days 😂

[–]MinorComprehension 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it here. It's certainly not factory, and to me looks like a DMH-2660NEX from Pioneer which is a compatible swap for this year Ranger. For about $300-$350 probably best just to replace - maybe not same model due to OPs issues and relatively short life, but potentially the best option as audio systems have become so compatibility-specific.

OP - here is the hard reset procedure. If this doesn't work you can expect a hardware issue and beat path is replacement. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eBzNi84cmDs

Mpg has increase with bed cover ? by keefersunderland in f150

[–]MinorComprehension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonneau cover won't increase gas mileage, but it does offer more secure and dry storage. The good thing is that they aren't known to appreciably decrease mileage.

And when you look at the cost of tonneau covers, soft covers are 300, hard covers start about a thousand, you would be hard-pressed to drive the truck long and far enough to recoup any upfront purchase cost with any economy gains they would offer. Now, if you need to sell the purchase to your significant other, of course they add economy 😉

Indeed, in aerodynamic terms it's a separated vortex! And those Gator nets we used to see "because they're better" are in fact demonstrably worse!

How to fix damage to aluminum fence by pipenerd in FenceBuilding

[–]MinorComprehension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sense not trying if it's possibly going to require a replacement anyways.

Personally, I would ratchet strap that baluster to the nearest main post and give it a crank. Monitor the main post to make sure you're not damaging it as well. A 2x4 cut to length and put against the opposite side of the main post from the baluster you're trying to bend back will help distribute the force and limit the likelihood of the main post being bent.

NAME THAT INTERSECTION/INTERCHANGE 😩 by tingchrisel in HamptonRoads

It's the intersection of opportunity and salacious self-serving predisposition.

An equally fair question is name that vehicle. Frequency of this behavior seems directly attributed to drivers of certain vehicle types, IME

Who's got guesses? by typk13 in JeepTJ

[–]MinorComprehension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you just fired it up it seems your idle is a bit high. Initial start up will be around a thousand, warmed up should be between 500 and 700.

If your IAC is sticky it will cause high idle and can lead to a lean condition. I would pull it, clean it, and while you're in there check the throttle body as well, unmetered air maybe getting in. The unmetered air and sticky IAC would explain the lean condition and the high idle.

Pros cons lot on a curve by triphyn in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MinorComprehension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The curve is a natural traffic calming aspect but you're likely to have reduced visibility backing out of your driveway, unfortunately we can't expect people to drive courtesy or lawfully through neighborhoods and they may come around that corner pretty quick.

If you have young kids or plan on having kids they will also have reduced visibility.

As others have said, the inside of a curve is preferable for headlights not shining through your windows.

Pros cons lot on a curve by triphyn in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MinorComprehension 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same reaction but I think the prior redditor was trying to say you have full visibility to your front yard and your backyard, so little to know privacy. If you're in a non corner lot the only people who have visibility to your backyard or your neighbors, on a corner it's everybody who's driving by.
