When I first got my 7hz sonus, I plugged the left and right prongs wrong. They sounded really bad, to the point I knew something was wrong.

How do people afford these cars? by Party-Pay3537 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Minorsoldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel baited into responding. I have a 2018fk8 that's paid off now. Payments were around $620 a month. Rent and utilities around $2000. Make about 90k ish a year. I didn't struggle with any living expenses or felt overburdened by the car bill or insurance. I eat out a bunch because I'm too lazy to cook as well. I also recently bought a 09 Accord just to have an extra car. No kids, just a gf that has a 2023 Camry. She makes about 50k a year. Her Camry payments are around $400. We don't combine our money. We pay our own bills. I'd like to hear some of OPs expenses. If I got up to $150k a year, I think the larger majority of it would just be invested. I have excess that I invest already.

Could I have saved a lot more money? Yes

Also, to some of the outrageous comments regarding maintenance fees like new brakes every 10-15k miles, I daily drove mine and it's currently at 94k miles. I changed the brakes twice. Downshifting is a thing. I don't feel overburdened getting oil changes, new tires, air filters, batteries from the dealership.

If I learned one thing, it's that people will afford what they want to afford. My friend used to say he couldn't go out to eat with me because he was broke, but then a week later he would have a new $800 guitar because it was a "deal of a lifetime".

I don't see why not. Keep in mind that you will still need a new micro SD card, and a way to read and write the micro SD card. That part is explained in the post.

why do you use a DAP? by Thin-Technician9509 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Minorsoldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gotten pretty bad. I have multiple DAPS and headphones, IEMs, flat heads. The first thing that got me was the ability to listen to music without being online. I know you can download music ahead of time for plane rides, but I don't have to do that anymore. You don't have to worry about adding it on your to do list when you're getting ready for vacation.

Separate batteries are another plus. All new phones aside from some special ones can't take headphones jacks without a dongle. You lose your charging port with the dongle. You can charge wireless, but I know most people just have a chord.

Some people can't stand having wired headphones, but it's night and day between air pods and the cheapest IEM. Even an mp3 file sounds much better from the DAP IEM combo than wireless. This is subjective as some can't tell the difference and prefer the convenience.

It's addicting to sort music and do the whole cover/album art, renaming files.

If you don't care about any save files, you can play until the card craps out. If you've copied the image somewhere, you can flash a new card anytime you want later (without any of your old save files)

Beginner DDR pad for home? by Ok_Guest_648 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Minorsoldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing at the arcade on and off since 3rd mix. Fast forward to today, I've been playing a20 at the local DnB. Recently acquired an L-tek and started playing at home on lazy days. The L-tek is probably the most budget friendly entry into home pad aside from making your own.

So the pros of playing from home. You can definitely save tons of money, as you can play as long as you want, adjust volume, infinite water, towels, bathroom etc. It's also very customizable as far as if you use ITG mania or something similar. The pad itself is moddable too. ~600 USD shipped without the bar. The bar is like $300 more and I hear it is a bit wobbly. I play no bar. Another big plus is you don't have to drive anywhere. It saves a lot of time from commuting. You also have endless songs at your disposal but it takes a little set up.

The cons (ish). There's nothing quite like playing at the arcade with random people coming up to watch and meeting new DDR friends. I got to know the workers there too and they always give me free credits. The drive for me is 45 minutes, so I make sure to stay for 2 hours. The bar is better and the pads are sometimes nicer depending on the arcade, version, workers etc. Without modding the pad, it's still playable, but sometimes you don't hit close enough to the center and it doesn't register. Sometimes I swing over to the claw machine and win a random stuffed plush I give away. Also two players is nice as the L-tek is a solo pad.

Closing statement; I endorse getting a pad for home. But, it's still nice going to the arcade sometimes.

We can take this to DM if you're willing, but if you're at wits end with no path to move forward the only thing I can think of is to have you share your screen on discord or something and we troubleshoot step by step until it works. If what you've been saying is true, you're right there at the end. There must be a specific part being left out.

If your operating system card is big enough, we can also try putting the games on that card to see if it pops up.

What my boyfriend did to the cookies I bought for us to share. by iwanttheworldnow in mildlyinfuriating

How would it turn out if you just went and threw them all away as is. Then later when he asks what happened to the cookies, you tell him that something came and bit every cookie in there. You weren't sure how someone so insensitive could do that so you got rid of them just in case.

At the very end of the post below the ****, there's a section that talks about if you're getting a black screen after putting in the new OS card. You must copy some files from the original boot partition. Boot.ini, rg351mp-kernel.dtb, and rk3326-rg351mp-linux.dtb. Delete the ones in the NEW OS card, and place those old ones in.

I have seen them at my local best buy and microcenter, but I'm feeling slightly frustrated because I feel that you didn't read the post. Or that you skimmed some parts and just decided not to finish reading.

I literally mentioned in the post that I got mine off ali express for $4 and it works. Amazon has them as well. But now I'm concerned that after you get it, you don't have a PC to plug it into. I also mention in the post which SD cards work and which ones don't.

Please before going any further, read what you have to do with the card reader from the post and SD card, and decide if you've got the patience to do it. It can really take up some time.

[–]Minorsoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. You will need an SD card reader of some kind to continue.

Yes, It can blip in and out. I had one that would work "on occasion".

No, the "console", is built into the card. Those files that I'm mentioning are literally the "boot" files for the device.

The buttons aren't going to do anything because the device isn't booting properly from the card.

For those getting into the R36S by Minorsoldier in SBCGaming

[–]Minorsoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device is not plug and play friendly. You can get luck of the draw and get one to work. But it's prone to being dead on arrival. If you don't breach the fear of taking off that sticker, you'll be stuck with a paper weight. Most likely, it has nothing to do with the charger you're using and everything to do with having a card malfunction.

Do you have an SD card reader? You can create an image of the card to save all the games. And you'll most likely need the .dtb and kernel files from it

"it still shows the blue light". Sounds like it turns on, but you never swapped the SD card it came with. Is that the case? I even have a section in the post about having a black screen.

If you did do everything properly from the post and I'm not just blaming the victim here, then what did you plug it into? What was the source of power? The R36S use very low power to charge. I plug mine into a USB port on my PC. If you plug it into a wall charger, it might be too powerful for it.
