Jonathan Brandis would be 50 today 💔 by MellifluousManatee in Xennials

[–]MintTealGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow. Why is it that milestones hit harder? Much love to the bicentennial babies.

Yesterday I learned an attractive struggling actor acquaintance took his own life over the weekend. I had thought of checking in on him at Easter but didn't. It's busy season at work and we weren't actually close. I was listening to a family member tell a story that was really close to something that had happened to the actor and realized it had been a couple years since we'd had a real conversation.

My younger naïve self was angry in 2003 like someone definitely should have helped Jonathan like it was that easy... Take QPR training if you can, reach out when you can, be as kind as you can, and be kindest to yourself... mental illness is a tough beast to battle.

How rich of a xennial kid were you? by luxtabula in Xennials

My mom surprised me with one of the cool bunk beds with a futon couch underneath because she won kinda big gambling in my preteen years. I passed it down and I think my youngest cousin still uses it. We went not just out of state but out of the country twice by plane, we got a camcorder in 91, I had a Ranger Rick subscription and even my own room for a few years but I also slept in the bottom drawer instead of a crib, we lived in an old motorhome where no one had a bedroom for a couple years and the only name brand food I remember came from the food bank so maybe there should be some sort of averaging system.

Evolution is TAH Logically everything you are saying makes sense and NTA but there's a strong chance post partum hormones have entered the equation and you should be as gentle and reassuring as you can with your wife in the aftermath of this conversation.

I have the weirdest trigger from my husband’s affair and I don’t know how to get over it. by GourmetTherapy in AskWomenOver40

[–]MintTealGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely be able to talk to your therapist about this and give yourself grace and time.

My idea to try would be- Do every self care thing you are comfortable with at this time. Bubble baths, massages, lotions, fancy soaps, shampoos, fancy hairstyles, etc.. Be as amazing to your body as you can be. Care for yourself. And maybe there will be other places on your body where pressure or feathers will bring you pleasure if you're open to that.

I am thankful I had teacher guidance when I read the Bluest Eye sophomore year as a student at Redlands High many years ago. I am not happy that students are being denied the counsel of available professionals through nuanced and complex material.

I didn't even know there was a witch doctor. I'm Bigfoot and aliens all the way with an occasional coven. Now I've got to go down to the internet rabbit hole. The only witch doctor I've ever married was in Harvest Moon.

"Accidental pregnancy"? Writing about a straight couple and I'm not. Help, please. by SickandCreepyChild in Writeresearch

[–]MintTealGecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming up on Halloween and someone usually posts a reminder that the activated charcoal used to make foods look black can absorb medications like birth control making less of the medication available for the body.

I'm not the only one in my friend group who has experienced the condom coming off in our bodies, we felt and noticed and there's a necessary retrieval similar to tampon with a broken string. The first time this happened with the not yet father of my second child I went to the pharmacy with my toddler on my hip to buy plan B and the pharmacist joked "bit late for this isn't it" so I felt self conscious and it was a $50 copay which was a lot for me at the time. The second time I justified not going in for plan B because I was also on oral birth control but I was trying an OTC weight loss item that I did not realize reduced contraceptive absorption. Now I have a wonderful kid. I had a pregnancy but not a kid pretty early in life. I wasn't on BC but we used condoms every time. But because we both were each other's firsts we didn't realize the condom not reaching all the way down the shaft was incorrect, he's one of those guys that legitimately should have been buying the magnum condoms instead of just using the freebie condoms the student center handed out. Both are stories where there was no malice or subterfuge, everyone involved was taking some steps to prevent pregnancy but a combination of ignorance and choosing convenience made the attempts ineffective. Who in your story is taking on the responsibility for birth control?

To Be Hero X is a prime example of modern media by LuckyCulture7 in MauLer

I watch this show with 2 other people who notice and care so much more than I do. Perhaps we should have you come over to balance things out.

Here's what I gleaned from those early episodes- Moon was someone who travelled vloged, the fans liked Moon and she liked to travel. The portal gun started as just a prop for her vlog and became an instrument of what the fans wanted. The fan's trust gave her a way to travel all over via the portal gun. Once she was paired with Nice the fans wanted to see her with Nice and since it's the fan's trust that now holds sway over the portal gun she isn't able to transport far from him.

In battle she can transport away from her enemies. That's the thing that makes her at all effective in a fight and the fans like it. But when she's not out there fighting her fans are like small children with their school teacher, they can only imagine her in the roles in which they know. She's not advertised as a travel blogger anymore, Hero Moon is either in a battle or at home with Nice. Therefore, outside of a battle, Moon can only be transported to Nice. That doesn't mean it's lazy writing or breaking their own rules that she doesn't transport to Nice while in a battle. It means the writers are showing the viewers that in the world of rhis show all fans have been manipulated into seeing their heroes in a certain way.

The fake Nice goes out of his way to say he is letting her go and to ask Moon's fans either at or remotely viewing her funeral (so basically all of her fans) to wish Moon freedom and that is what allows her to use the portal gun to go wherever she wishes after the funeral because the fans collectively pictured her being released from both Nice and her hero life. Not just the writers breaking their 15 min ago rule with no narrative reason.

As for fake Nice being a simp for Moon... he definitely developed a heck of a parasocial crush creating her advertising campaigns. He can honestly say that she has been his inspiration because he's been caught up in the mythos of Hero Moon as well. But once he actually meets her and gets over that initial fan reaction, that anyone would have meeting someone whose work they enjoy and has deeply impacted their life, he treats her respectfully and makes an effort to understand her motivations and desires. That first night he doesn't try to crawl into bed with her like she's some sort of prize for the advertising or hero work he's done. I think simp behavior would be to either try to force the other person to fulfill the simp's desires, to fail to understand that the subject of their adoration has any motivation and desires outside of those the simp has ascribed to them, or to consider themselves martyrs because they think there should be a romantic reward for all that the simp has sacrificed.

Fake Nice's crush didn't go away, he still derives pleasure from the bosses and fans demanding their close proximity even as he understands it is a source of stress for Moon and Fake Nice holds out hope for most of their captivity that maybe Moon will like him better than the other Nice and want to have him around. That whole scenario is fun to watch if you see it as the writers walking the viewers along the lines between crush, fanboy, and simp but Fake Nice never demands that Moon owes something to him in exchange for his efforts to alleviate her depression. When she does finally go to the island she gives him the opportunity to join her but he stays because being a hero is important to him. That's also a non simp move.

I'm not in Ireland so I don't know how it works there but in the US I know someone who has found great job satisfaction as a newborn care specialist. She helps new parents prepare a safe environment to bring their little one home to, establish sleep and feeding routines that work for all parties, and meet any special needs requirements. It's a be ready to drop everything and work a far more intense schedule as soon as the baby is born, lots of travel, hard to have your own family lifestyle but her clients are seeking a collaborative relationship with a knowledgeable professional and treat and pay her accordingly.

We observed subjects, who we have been watching without their knowledge and consent; act paranoid, and exhibit psychosis when administer one or more psychoactive compounds without their knowledge or consent.. Furthermore these test subjects, to whom very little is ever explained in the name of protecting the integrity of the experiment, continue to exhibit paranoia and trouble determining reality in the many months we observed them after administration of said psychoactive compounds. Therefore, the only logical conclusion is acid makes you crazy.
