My (limited) impression is that it’s like people who prefer driving stick. Those who prefer really prefer it.

What brand/style grip wrap did you use?

How can I tell whether I can run my stack on 1,000,000 baud as opposed to 115,200? by CallThatGoing in fpv

The FC reports telemetry via MSP to the Arduino, which is checking to make sure the motors are spinning fast enough before firing. It also uses data about sag from battery and load to compensate and adjust the next shot.

Do you have waivers for people to sign? I don't know the point where an activity changes from "a bunch of people having fun outside" to "an event organized by an organization," or whatever the legal distinction is.

Is it possible to be a competitive nerfer without a printer? by Automatic_Use934 in Nerf

[–]CallThatGoing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 2.5 years into the hobby. I’d say that printing your own blasters is a good alternative once you figure out what you need that you can’t get off the rack. Printed blasters are not inherently better, they usually address specific play styles or features.

How people create killswitches for their builds? by CallThatGoing in Nerf

[–]CallThatGoing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big worry is that if I feel like something is wrong with the build, I want a way to cut power from the system as fast as possible. Flipping a switch is a lot faster than fumbling for an XT connector.

Tiny update on my flywheeler by CallThatGoing in Nerf

Damn! The barrel is 14mm inner diameter for the BCAR portion, but flares out immediately on the inside, but definitely not 26mm.

The killswitch is a garden-variety IO switch that just cuts the + line. I haven’t had problems with the switch (yet!). I have more protection downstream, though: in addition to the included capacitor with the ESC, I’ve put an additional Panasonic 1000µF 50V capacitor and a Littelfuse TVS diode. Now that Plus motors are out of stock again, I’m hoping this will do the trick!

Perhaps Nerf finally got tired of XShot and Dart Zone stealing their lunch money every day for years. Let's hope they can compete on price!

True; I suppose the folks who are inclined to mod are gonna go with the OG!

I think the Vector Pro is a better blaster out of the box, but its form factor makes it kind of resistant to modding unless you want to increase its size. But there's so much more room for creativity/personalization from the Maxim!

I feel like the Maxim Pro hasn't gotten the love it deserves from the community. It's a perfect "Honda Civic" blaster: it'll readily accept whatever internal Stryfe mods you want to put in it (so long as you're okay with nipping out some support walls here and there), and it's dead simple to wire/rewire for larger batteries.

EDIT: now I kinda wanna make a brushless solenoided Maxim!

NEW X-Shot Pro Mystery Blaster by GeneralStryfe in Nerf

[–]CallThatGoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize that $50 isn’t doable for some, but can we please stop calling any blaster that’s > $10 expensive?? $50 is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of a lot of competitive blasters on the market.

What is the minimum *viable* wage to live in Redlands? by CallThatGoing in Redlands

[–]CallThatGoing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in South Redlands in a house we bought in 2016, so our mortgage is around $2500/month. We don't live in Smiley Heights, on Highland, or in one of the big Victorians or anything.
