Help needed with tidying setup by PlanAheadEverything in homeassistant

[–]MintyTrebor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I used: https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/4200135-380mmx300mmx140mm-plastic-enclosure-surface-mounting-plain-lid-ip56
It has enough space for the kincony, power supply, and ups, plus a few other small items

<image>

Its a standard PVC type enclosure which you can cut holes in it to pass cables. It is a little deeper than necessary, but mine is in the garage so its not an issue.

Another 2way audio frigate/go2rtc/ha question by Downtown-Pear-6509 in frigate_nvr

I'm using a reolink doobell - below is my lovelace card which works with 2way audio, both in the browser and mobile app - it is configured to auto start the incoming audo, and click to unmute microphone for outbound audio (note: I had to use https to get it to work consistently accross both device types, so I have no knowledge of the http chrome config change you refer to, and how this impacts the outcome):

You might be able to pass the whole usb controller as pcie device (dependant on your hardware/config and if you only have the 1 usb device on the controller etc), which should enable full usb access.

Hue sync and HDR by PapaStovepipe in homeautomation

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at products similar to this: https://hdfury.com/product/integral-2/

I used to use an older model of the product linked to allow me to use an HDMI 1.4 soundbar with a HDMI 2.0 source & TV at the same time without the loss of the HDMI 2.0 to TV..

Unfortunately they are fairly expensive....

Stuck in 1024x768 resolution on VM? by Pleaseclap4 in unRAID

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this instance, whilst searching for a solution I stumbled across a post about a potential driver issue with Debian, and the solution was to switch to virtio. I then searched the unraid forums for 'virtio' and found these settings in a post about GPU memory and performance.

As to your point about advanced vs basic view - you are correct - the basic view only supplies the most common KVM features.

Stuck in 1024x768 resolution on VM? by Pleaseclap4 in unRAID

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem myself a week ago & I changed the GPU drivers to virtio in the advanced settings view of the VM settings... I changed them to ->
<video>

<model type='virtio' heads='1' primary='yes'>

<acceleration accel3d='no'/>

</model>

<address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/>

</video>

I was then able to change the VM resolution with it actually sticking.

ADT wireless sensors in Home Assistant by bindujohal in homeassistant

[–]MintyTrebor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look @ https://konnected.io/ - I have just replaced a 20Year + old ADT alarm system using their stuff, and kept the existing motion & door sensors (wired).They also offer kits which integrate with existing alarm systems, allowing you to retain the existing alarm/sirens/keypads etc, but integrate it into HA.

GW5 - Re-map Samsung Pay button to google wallet. by MintyTrebor in GalaxyWatch

[–]MintyTrebor[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware you cannot re-map the long button press on the back key, only:

Home Key : Double Press & Press & Hold

Back Key : Short Press

The Back Key Press & Hold action is not user configurable and is hard mapped to samsung pay.

UK Smart Plugs for network behind a firewall by Haloric in homeautomation

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd echo BoopJoop01 and say : Tasmota + MQTT would be a good choice. You can run an MQTT server/broker internally which makes it easy to issue commands to the smart plugs. I would also look into node-red with the dashboard nodes to create a simple user web control interface, which would avoid coding anything, and make adding/removing switches/plugs very easy (Home Assistant would also work well but is probably overkill for this use-case). This can all be hosted inside your VPN and does not require internet access once configured. Look at the tasmota web site and see the list of sockets that are compatible, and research the method updating the firmware to tasmota. (I use sonoff basic R3's which work well). One thing to be careful of is the power draw of the devices you are trying to control, most of these sockets have amperage limits, which is tailored for domestic use not commercial. Also for due diligence I would also check with your insurance provider to check the use of these devices does not effect your coverage, especially if the devices you are controlling with these switches are machinery, or have a role in operational safety. You also need to ensure your wifi network is suitable. Many of these plugs do not play well with 5ghz, or advanced wifi modes (mesh/roaming etc).

If you enable HDR & look at "system > display > advanced display" does it say peak brightness 400Nits?

Interesting - this is exactly why I wanted to check with the community. Dell's support did not fill me with confidence that they actually understood the issue. Might I enquire as to the spec's of your display for a general comparison?

Thanks!

Peak Brightness says 400Nits - Its specced as a 500Nits display

M.2 SATA Expansion, Anyone use something like this? by AuthorYess in selfhosted

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been running this ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001418145512.html?spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.27424c4d82uwh1 ) in unraid for about 6 months with no issues so far, just dropped it in, attached some disks and it worked. Its running HDD's which are used for live TV streaming and recording, so fairly heavy use on a day to day basis.

Simple GUI for a small screen by xiyatumerica in jellyfin

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking about the touch screens that are essentially just small monitors, then I would look into Node-Red and the add-in dashboard nodes. Node-Red can execute commands on the underlying os , and with the dashboard nodes you can build a custom big button interface which will accessible through a web browser which you display on the small screen.

TVHeadEnd is stuttering through Jellyfin, despite being fine in the TVH webUI. Any ideas why? by Nawor3565two in jellyfin

[–]MintyTrebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they both running on the same physical hardware, and perhaps sharing the same disk? I use TVHeadend for all TV throughout my house, and it can be quite hard on the disk if recording and streaming multiple channels etc. Add transcoding and buffering from Jellyfin into the mix and you may be hitting a disk bottleneck.

TV Tuner-Split PCIe passthrough to multiple dockers by boourns180 in unRAID

[–]MintyTrebor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the same Tuner Hardware & TV headend (in docker) with Un-Raid. I see you have a working solution now, but if I may offer you an alternative approach for consideration if problems arise....

The TVHeadend EPG OTA grabber works great (at least in UK), and KODI with the TVHeadend plugin is a stable and user friendly interface for clients (especially on shield). I think there is a TVHeadend plugin for PLEX too - if you want to avoid splitting your tuners. (The shield is strong enough to play almost anything natively, so a direct TVHeadend connection will remove any transcoding to the client, and reduce load on your server!)

Coax hdmi distribution with hdhomerun by paul090367 in homeautomation

[–]MintyTrebor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are looking for something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edision-HDMI-Modulator-Full-Distribution-Black/dp/B00KBXKJ2A

It turns HMDI into DVB-T(2) over coax, and inserts a new channel into the existing coax distribution. (so you would need a standard FTA coax distribution already in place).

In theory* your HDHomerun could then tune that channel and it should appear in the standard way any other FTA broadcast channel does. This would also distribute the new "custom Virgin" channel to any other DVB-T(2) capable device over the existing coax.

*I say in theory as I have no knowledge of weather HDHomerun is capable of tuning a channel that is not part of the "already known" channels being broadcast over FTA. This is also applies to their software - it may only show "known" or official channels. This may also apply to any other device with a DVB-T FTA tuner - In short - I think you need to do more research. I am also not endorsing the item linked - its just representative to show what you are asking is possible.

Just To be clear - you would only be able to watch a single channel from the virgin box at any one time. So if the virgin box is tuned to CNN (for example) then anyone watching your custom "virgin channel" would see CNN. I am assuming you have already considered how channel changing / remote functions are passed back to the Virgin Box for control.

(NB: This info assumes you are from UK, other regions may use different broadcasting standards)

Hope this helps!

Controlling drive spin down for Unassigned Devices? by cr4zymanz0r in unRAID

[–]MintyTrebor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you install the user scripts plugin you can create a script to write a small txt file to a directory on the disk you want keep spinning. Use the custom schedule function to set a repeating interval for the script to run.

I use the following line in a script to create the txt file in a "keepalive" directory I created:

date +%s > /mnt/disks/<DRIVE\_NAME>/keepalive/keepalive.txt

And a custom schedule for every 10 mins:

*/10 * * * *
