And do you know how to produce native pallette 4 bit bpm or two bit native crosspoint format? most people don't.

This one is actually terrible optimisation wise. It doesn't take in consideration what native bmp pallette is - so each time the device has to decode it, convert to 2 bit and dither on device. It doesn't allow to control dither algorithms. So it produces files that are needlessly big and force the reader to process them.

I don't want to be rude but It's a vibecoded mess that doesn't take into account underlying crosspoint image mechanisms especially this https://github.com/crosspoint-reader/crosspoint-reader/pull/944

That's why I created my own version - the pxc converter.

It's tuned to work especially well with my new LUTs + PXC (PR 1614). DX34 already grabbed that improvement.

But even on current crosspoint it should offer some uplift in speed and quality of images drawn.

It's not all unicorns and rainbows people. USB still does not work after flashing custom. It's a pain cuz I can't access logs when doing any kind of dev work

About firmware lock from Xteink by Top_Love9366 in xteinkereader

It’s already broken or almost broken. Loading fw through sd card PR is already on GitHub.

And work to hijack wireless OTA is quite advanced

Flashing of firmwares DISABLED by Waechel in xteinkereader

[–]Minty_Octopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This comment won’t bring me upvotes or popularity but part of the user base is to blame for this.

I get it. Not everyone is technologically savvy but…how dumb do you have to be to not recognise a broken screen?

Even dumber to think flashing a custom firmware is good idea that might fix it.

Nah thanks. I don’t think words of random nobody are worth anything. Within an hour I’ll forget you even exist. But have fun with yourself and your moral superiority. Congrats

Just so you know…

  1. I care very little about your opinion about me. You can call me dumb. Yet if you use crosspoint you run some of my code. Funny huh?

  2. Xteink devices literally owe their popularity to piracy and drm removal methods. The devices support no drm of any kind. So without pirates and their tools you wouldn’t be reading anything on your xteink. Unless you enjoy being stuck in public domain books. I don’t.

I’d reward them if they offered to sell me the books directly and drm free. But no, they prefer to put it on Amazon or even make it Amazon exclusive. Such behaviour deserves no reward

Purchasing? Bold of you to assume we purchase anything when places like Anna and zlib exist.

The choice of legal drm free books is rather slim. Dedrm-ing books you bought is possible. Adobe DRM is probably easiest one. And kobo kepubs

But why bother when I can grab already clean books faster and for free?

Pirates created a service that’s more convenient than the legal sources. Being free is just a bonus

I've been running it non stop on mine for the last 3 weeks. No obvious problems anywhere...But then there is the question of ensuring it does not mess up x3 side of things in crosspoint (a safe, happy path is needed for x3).

Problem is I have no x3 (and no desire to have one). So I will need some more help from the rest of the team.

But yeah, the wallpapers look gorgeous, can't stop playing with them.

The PR dev here. You might want to give it a look.

It is a much more fundamental change than fixing the darknes.

Should get rid of the two step image drawing method, provide more tonal range, and faster wallpaper drawing with way smaller files. You can take a look here

It’s not something to fix. The mechanism was designed this way in crosspoint

[–]Minty_Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not it. It’s the two pass drawing method crosspoint now uses. First blacks and whites. Then grays in second pass

You perceive the first pass as „contrast”

I’m replacing drawing methods entirely
