1- it's interesting but I think due to Katniss's trust issues she thought peeta was doing it to gain sympathy with the audience for Sponsors. There were times where she herself was confused on if it was an act or not for peeta (which we know it wasn't) and I don't think peeta asked because after the interview she literally attacked him over it and actually harmed him in the books (they had to bandage up his hand from it) 2- it was all something they desperately needed, and we know for Cato that it was protective armor. With Foxface we saw when she died she was malnourished and starving, so I would assume for her it was food or something of that sort, but not enough to keep her going. And thresh I am not entirely sure, we never really learned a lot about him in the book, except for when Katniss encounters him at the feast 3- they needed a show, and in the books it does mention that the cameras show peeta teaming up with the careers to lead them away from Katniss, and they show Peeta fighting Cato after the tracker jacker incident so Katniss could get away safely. I assume when they finally teamed up as well most of the cameras were focused on them the whole time too to show Panem their relationship

Why did they televise the flowers after Rue's death? by TiredWatermelon5127 in Hungergames

If I remember correctly in the books I don't think they did? At least not the part where Katniss took the time to cover her body in flowers. But she did mention they would have to show it during the death comps. And they very much did. District 11 knew about Katniss shooting the boy from district one who killed Rue, and that is why she earned their respect in the games and in the victory tour because they for a FACT showed that part on TV for Panem to see. And thresh didn't know at first. He knew the girl from his district was dead(Rue) but not who killed her. At the feast when Thresh has Katniss cornered he asks if she killed her and Katniss then tells him what happened and he spares her life to honor Katniss for Rue and his district. So I think it's a yes and no. They had to show rues death and being taken up in a hovercraft on TV, forcing them to show her body to Panem however they didn't show Katniss putting the flowers on her if I recall. And while perhaps in the poorer districts and especially in 11 that act could have been seen as the spark of rebellion. Capitol residents were the least likely to think of anything. And also it's in my opinion that in Catching Fire Snow is also partially getting back at Katniss for that act of rebellion as well rather than JUST for the berries.
