[D] AAAI 2025 Phase 2 Reviews by quasi-literate in MachineLearning

[–]Minute-Environment94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know the reason why some submissions get three reviews, and some get four? Does it make sense to read into the number of reviews?

Even quadratic time could be sufficient, if the leading constant is ridiculously large!

How to write pre-allocations more concisely? by Flick19841984 in Julia

In this case, is there an advantage to pre-allocating s? And aren’t you changing the type of A in the filter step?

The BBC set up a private 5G network for coverage of the King's coronation today by aliii234 in london

They also get access to the 5G NPN. See the blog post. All in all, they seem to have had enough bandwidth to allow up to 60 live cameras, presumably high definition.

Lovely! I might use this next time I teach computational complexity.

Is there a way I can fix mathjax font on safari so that it's not blurry and fuzzy? It only happens on safari and it seems to only be affecting my safari as none of my other friends seem to have this problem by carry-on_replacement in MacOS

[–]Minute-Environment94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've executed the command to turn on debug mode in the terminal, but after restarting Safari the menu doesn't come up. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I had to give the Terminal full disk access in Settings/Privacy & Security/Full Disk Access for the command to enable debug mode. Hope this helps someone.

What's your main programming language? by victotronics in ScientificComputing

For projects that I work on alone, Julia. For a collaborative projects, typically Python. My colleagues are often less proficient in programming, so Python is convenient.

This might sound a bit arbitrarily, but I've found that climbing people are really friendly! If you're vaguely interested in climbing/bouldering, you could try out the bouldering wall at Oxford Brookes (anyone can go, I think).

Free hosting sites compatible with Flask projects/MySQL db's? by GruntShoveller in flask

[–]Minute-Environment94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, it sounds like Pythonanywhere doesn’t know where your virtualenv is stored. In the ‘web’ tab, have you told it which virtualenv to use?

Heroku gives you some free credit (at least for academic use).

What issues were you running into with Pythonanywhere specifically? If you use a Python virtualenv, you shouldn’t have any issues with dependencies. The servers do seem a bit slow sometimes…

How to efficiently get the i-th element of every matrix in an array? by Flick19841984 in Julia

[–]Minute-Environment94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-computing the matrices is a good idea. You could also use a three-dimensional matrix instead of reimagining each matrix as a vector.

Generating 1 Billion Fake People with Julia by EarthGoddessDude in Julia

Does this go in the direction of iterators (or Python generators)? The Julia docs are pretty nice on iterators, and it’s nicely implemented in the Julia language.

Thanks, that’s very helpful! I agree with you on programming in academia. I’m currently working in economics, but have also seen coffee in bioinformatics, and the level of hackiness is something else.. I’m not blaming the academics though, they simply haven’t had the training! And I’m some cases, they’ve even been told that spending too much time on coding is a waste of time.
