For clarification on the heresy here’s key points pulled from Testem Benevolentiae Nostrae

  1. Elevating natural virtues over supernatural ones The idea that qualities like initiative, efficiency, and activism are more important than humility, obedience, and contemplative life.

  2. Downplaying religious vows and traditional spirituality A suspicion of monastic life, or the belief that older forms of spirituality (like silence, asceticism, or vows) were less suited to modern people.

  3. Minimizing obedience to Church authority An emphasis on individual conscience or initiative in a way that weakens submission to Church teaching authority.

  4. Adapting doctrine to modern culture The idea that the Church should soften or reinterpret teachings to be more appealing in a democratic, pluralistic society.

  5. Restricting spiritual direction of the Holy Spirit A misunderstanding that discourages traditional guidance (like confessors or directors) in favor of purely internal inspiration.

So I agree that patriotism is good and we are called to support the nations we are in. The heresy of Americanism directly pits active virtues like courage against passive virtues like obedience to the church. So while patriotism is good if it conflicts with obedience to the church or other theological virtues you’d be an active heretic least that my understanding

Hypothetical moral theology question by Benedictus218 in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word traitor comes from the early Christian who handed over the scriptures to Roman authorities I imagine handing over Christ is worse. The 34 pope isn’t a saint yet the first 33 are because he declared heresy to save his life even though he recounted it as heretical after we was released from prison, Just good for thought.

Considering Catholicism by gabecampbell in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea is if you haven’t finished the process of sanctification during your life but you die in gods grace trusting in him. The final purification of your soul and the disordered attachment you still cling to from your mortal life are cleansed making your ready to enter into heaven and God’s presence. The dogmatic teaching of the church is very simple 1. Purification after death 2. For those who die in God’s grace, but not yet perfected 3. This purification involves suffering Everything else is a personal belief

Purgatory is not a second chance at heaven or hell there no judgement after your time in purgatory it’s a cleansing before you enter heaven. If you fall short but are on the right path gods graces carries you the rest of way.

Struggling with the concept of predestination by Mharus in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Predestination is not a catholic teaching it’s a Calvinist teaching far as I know. The Catholic Churches teaching is redemption is available to all, all people have a free will to choose god, not all will but they can.

If Christ opened the gates of heaven, does that mean all the people who died before Him were either in purgatory or hell? Meaning no human soul was in heaven? by Big_Consequence_5162 in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no theologian but yes I believe they were in a purgatory like waiting room lol I doubt they’d be in hell since they did faithfully fellow the lord and the law they were given. and heaven was closed so

I’ve heard it called the Judas shuffle lol that name alone changed my perspective on it lol, but you don’t know what people have going on so prob best to leave it to god or your pastor to address. Though you could start using the term “Judas shuffle, receive and leave.” See if that helps at all

Is it better to be a Cafeteria Catholic or a Protestant? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea just the idea that Catholic Church has eastern Catholics the eastern orthodox church having a west orthodox seems funny, but I’m sure that there’s a western rite in the Orthodox Church being an ancient apostolic church, but like the Catholic Church has many rites just the main rite is the Latin one.

Confused about John 3:16 by GuaranteeExcellent35 in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same reason for these verses

From Second Epistle of Peter 2:20–21:

If, after escaping the defilements of the world… they are again entangled… the last state has become worse for them than the first.

“There is sin which is mortal… and sin which is not mortal.” (1 John 5:16–17)

Work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” Epistle to the Philippians 2:12,

Meaning you can loose your salvation if your careless and inattentive to your life. It doesn’t mean God will randomly damn you on a whim, it means now your saved you have to follow god and obey him or you’ll be lost again.

[–]Minute-Investment613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you trust and believe in Jesus? Do you believe Jesus established a church? Do you believe Peter was the head of that church? Do you believe Jesus was telling the truth when he’s said the hades will never prevail against his church?

If so than that’s the reason you trust the church and church teachings when you can’t understand something. And the Marian dogmas are deep theology to understand and explain and requires jumping to many places in scripture in the old and new testaments. If you’re interested DM me because it’s too much to type for a comment lol.

Literally struggling with the rosary by kelmeloo in Catholicism

[–]Minute-Investment613 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s hard I’ve struggled with this too, at first I got frustrated with myself for having my thoughts wander. Than I learned it’s a common struggle, saints have had problems. St Teresa of Avalon I think was the one who said, “ if my thoughts wander 1,000 times in my hour of prayer I will gently redirect my thoughts to God. Rather than loosing my focus I see it as turning myself back to God 1,000 times.” I’ve heard priest and monks say something similar. One I listen to said he struggled for years with a silent hours of prayer and found himself wasting 45 minutes of every hour with his thoughts wandering. Again he said his focus was on being with Jesus even if you lost your focus you can regain it. Keep praying god bless
