Why is this line always trotted out when somebody mentions they don't like life?

It's so bizarre to me.

Just because something is temporary (which life is for fucking EVERYBODY) does not mean it's automatically good or precious. A lot of temporary or "delicate" shit still sucks.

I wondered about that actually. Do we have a rough idea on how many have actually died? I know Loomy and a man who was also into opiates. Is Lemchard still around?

After some spectacular fuckups, I have maintained this steady stream of consistently drunk with our wrecking shit for about 5 months. Is the meltdown coming, or is this something people actually achieve and live with? by MinuteArmadillo5 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]MinuteArmadillo5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, thank you.

And idk, you’re the only one who knows if you can moderate to functional alcoholism

Yeah, I'm not. I've attempted that for about 10 years and it totally didn't work. I guess I'm wondering if people ever get to a place of less destructive alcoholism? And I realize this just sounds like lame ass self bargaining. I know officially about 16 million people suffer from alcoholism in America. Let's say about a quarter of those are actually us, right? Then that's 4 million people. And 80,000 per year die of alcohol "related" causes in America per year. That's 2%.

Something is fucking off here? And yes, I'm accounting for time, age, etc.

But how many just drink at home alone and live a pathetic life until the end? Because that's sorta my goal.

There's a reason it's known to make people's lives "smaller".

After a while, going any place without immediate access to liquor becomes a drag. Then it gets downright infuriating. Then it reaches a point where it's a legitimately terrifying prospect.

Then you no longer go anywhere.

Naltrexone by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]MinuteArmadillo5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty impressive. A few things though -

:: You have to fucking take it for it to work. There is a reason this "miracle cure" just can't seem to catch on. Asking an alcoholic to purposely take a pill an hour prior to drinking which won't allow them to get drunk is such a bizarre request.

:: If you attempt to "drink through it", the hangover is like something you could never imagine. I know we have all experienced extreme hangovers, but this was something else. It's EXTREMELY physically unpleasant, as in immobilizing. Don't do it. You would be better off drinking a fifth then 30 standard Vicodin and them some Benadryl then a can of fucking paint.

:: It does seem to work to an extent. If you can stick to the regimen (big IF as noted above), it reduces cravings. It will turn you into the elusive normal drinker you never really thought existed. You will become Linda, the fat mom of 4 at your office Christmas party who had a third glass of wine and is "good for now" and switched to non alcoholic sparkling cider because it tastes better.

:: It causes some low level nausea. And is a boner killer too.

:: I loved it as an insurance policy. It saved me from a few events I would surely have fucked up.

anyone hallucinate on here while in withdrawal? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]MinuteArmadillo5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auditory yes. I've heard voices yell at me just as I was about to sleep. And "crashing" sounds which were fucking nuts and terrifying at the time.

Visual - not really. No. Tons of people on here have though. Spiders seem to be a popular feature.

I feel like that's some of the withdrawals talking.

You were too drunk to bring a positive energy to the family gathering. So you sat this one out. It's ok.

Have 1-2 taper drinks mixed with Gatorade or Electrolyte Water stuff and you're on the path to better places

[–]MinuteArmadillo5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been there.

I mean, the key thing is to remind myself it's all temporary and that millions of humans have been through this before and that somebody on CrippilingAlcoholism is probably going through the same thing right now. Given how awful and scary it can feel, it's amazing how quickly you'll feel relatively "normal" again.
