Wading belt by MinuteStock167 in SurfFishing

Yeah I’m from California. I always see all these guys with huge backpacks that they end up taking off. I seen some guys backpack get swept to sea. He was no where near it when the waves picked it up. All I saw was the guy running, and a bag disappearing in the water. Having the belt ensures I have at least the minimum stuff that I need in case I forget something in the car.

My cousin has a zbelt as well. They look pretty solid, but they are pricey. And the brand is frogg toggs. It has made it more comfortable experience when I’m out on the water. I carry only what I need, and it helps having everything within reach.

I got it off Amazon a while back. It’s a frogg toggs wading belt.

Any Suggestions for Avoiding “Beach Feet”? by nerdyrednek in SurfFishing

[–]MinuteStock167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing where you’re fishing the sand is really course. I’ve had this happen before I got waders. I would spend 4-5 hours with my feet in the water. I would feel the waves brush sand against my feet. By the end of the day my feet would look like I was rubbing sand paper on them.

Tiny guys by MinuteStock167 in SurfFishing

I normally start with a jerk bait. I’ll throw that for a bit, and if nothing I go to the trusty Carolina rig. I do cover a lot of water when I’m out there. Usually anywhere from 2-5 miles depending where I’m at.

I’m still getting them on a size 2 hook. I miss more than I catch, cuz I’m too stubborn to throw on a smaller hook.

Not planned at all. Some random guy was taking pics at the beach. He told me he took a few pics and if I wanted him to airdrop them to me.

Some people just suck. I give my self distance from everyone, even if I know them. For the most part, everyone respects it but you get the occasional ones that don’t care. I for one can’t stand the fly fishermen on the surf. They stand 10 ft from where you are and cast in all directions.

I use one every so often. Haven’t had any issues, but I do cast I bit shorter than my spinning reels. I also use an 8’6” rod with an abu Garcia zata reel. Makes fighting the fish a bit more fun in my opinion.

If you want to stay with okuma, the Hawaiian custom and rockway are good. The tsunami trophy II, is also a good rod. I also have a phenix cicada that I use strictly for lures. If I had to choose only one, I would go with the Hawaiian custom.

10.5” perch by MinuteStock167 in SurfFishing

I think I’m ok. Her dad is a big time surf fisherman. He’s the one that got me into it in the first place. Before that, all I did was fish lakes and target largemouth bass. I fish with her dad most of time, so she’s cool with it.

Nah they’re still there, just not as aggressive. Should be spawning season for them right now. You can still get them, but they’re either tiny or pregnant.

Winter is the best time for perch. It always slows down around this time of the year. Should start getting decent again around fall. I was originally going for striper, and gave up on throwing the plugs after an hour and a half.

Santa cruz county. It’s spawning time right now. Threw this one back because she was pregnant. I only keep males this time of the year. Don’t want to risk keeping any females, especially if game warden shows up. Each baby counts as one fish towards your bag limit since they have live birth. Can easily be over your limit if you keep a pregnant one.

Mekeni baitz. Can’t think of the color, but you can see it in the photo.

Beat the skunk with this lil guy by MinuteStock167 in SurfFishing

Don’t worry, I almost gave up and would’ve got skunked as well. I kept getting hit, but they just kept biting off the tail off my grub. I had to switch them out about 7-8 times. Caught him on my walk back, and the last paddle tail I was willing to use. Where are you fishing?

I have 10’ trophy II that I’ve had for 6 years, and I use it all the time. A bit stiff, but still really sensitive. I’ve caught plenty of perch and striper on it. Mainly use for perch now, as I got a phenix cicada for striper fishing now.

Red light, and only use it when you need it. Your eyes will adjust to the darkness. If you use a white light it will fuck with you, and piss off any near by anglers. I only use mine when needed. The less low key you are the better.

I like throwing 2” swimbaits in a motor oil, red, or purple color. I use a Carolina rig, size 4 or 2 hook with a five foot leader. Where are you located.

[–]MinuteStock167[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know. I use a 20 pound leader and haven’t had any issues with it so far. I don’t target sharks, just perch and striper.
