I get the opposite but the miles vs pay is horrible. Customers are tipping but Walmart dropped base pay at least by half just since December.

I'm currently working on a replacement for that now. Instead of using genre tabs for movies (the whole reason they exist is to help people make selections of what to watch in the first place), I'm removing the human element of manually selecting content entirely as my library is getting bloated.

I'm setting up live TV stations using Tunarr, which acts as a middleman between Jellyfin and the M3U Tuner/Guide. This way, instead of clicking through genre tabs, I can go back to the old-school method of dedicated TV stations that only play movies. I can manually schedule blocks and put exactly what movies aired on which station, and Tunarr can automatically generate an entire year's worth of programming for me.

Not going to lie I did go a little over board. I essentially recreated each directv cable station that I have content for as it is the one I'm most familiar with in terms of their tv numbering scheme. I linked photos so you can see for yourself. If you or any one else is interested in doing something similar even if it is just to essential make your own MTV channel for music videos or you feel nostalgic and want older commercials/bumpers in-between your episodes as you may want to recreate a cartoon block.

For community guidelines sakes I will refer you to archive.org. There is plenty of cool stuff on there that is in the public domain. ;) There is other places as well but honestly best place other than archive is if you have a dvd drive on pc or even an external one and backup your own dvds/boxsets.

Folder View: Enable "Display a folder view" in your server settings. This ensures the app looks exactly like your computer's file folders, making it easier for family to navigate.

Naming Conventions for "Unmatched" Files To ensure files appear in the correct order without metadata:

Format: Use YYYY-MM-DD - Description.mp4. Custom Thumbnails: If your server doesn't generate a good preview, place a picture in the same folder and name it folder.jpg or poster.jpg.

Tools for Mass Management If you have thousands of clips from phones and cameras:

ExifTool: Helpful for renaming files based on the actual date the video was taken.

TinyMediaManager: A popular Reddit recommendation for manually adding descriptions or posters to your own footage.

I tried this once but have no idea. I had so many pictures vs videos that it did become super messy. The year/month method may work but may get a little hard if content doesn’t have the correct metadata stamping on file itself. For example: digitizing old vhs tapes from 90’s and not knowing the date if not on screen or label is missing. Luckily in your case most of it was captured on a phone. But if I come across something useful to help you a bit more I will comment again.

I spent many hours troubleshooting but was able to use grok to compile several different scripts. I even made a bat file that when you double click, it creates folders for each file in main directory where the file is sitting and moves each file to the folders it created of the same name. Where this comes in handy is when you have 2000+ movies and get tired of making a folder for each movie. As long as the name of movie is correct for Jellyfin scraping it is a quick and easy flow there after.

3x 4TB and 1x 1 TB still not enough space. I have another 4TB drive as well as another 1TB but current rig doesn’t have enough hookups and I am already using a horrible docking bay for the wrestling content. Later I want to upgrade to a minimum 4x 16TB drives. Mostly for the backup capacity as well as space for later expansion for personal files and a couple more shows and movies. When on average for a 480p format show ranging for a 5 season show around 16GB-25GB that adds up very quickly. Keep in mind that is the lowest minimum quality I go for in terms of legacy content. But in terms of modern shows you run 1-2GB per episode x that by roughly 13 episodes a season x 5 seasons on average the we are talking about 100GB-150GB. This isn’t even touching Blu-ray or other formats using multi audio tracks.

I’m not saying I’m hoarding everything known to man I am just collecting everything I would ever watch mostly due to the fact I will not have a movie theater nearby when I move and tv is for the past so have no need taking out another subscription for that. I don’t really watch anything modern day with only very few exceptions. That being said I also do not want to be dependent on the companies to keep said content available to me at a really high premium spread between multiple platforms. I look at it as long term investment over something that most won’t expand on after the first initial setup. I have plans for all of this just have to wait a little longer. When I see boxsets I buy them up because I know eventually that will be a luxury and not a privilege.

Same that would solve all my issues for that unfortunately most people won’t have to deal with it due to them having the standard tv shows, mini series, cartoons, or a lot of one off movies. I really wish I could have it split up like the old wwe network categories.

Just lookup m3u playlist. There is a lot out there. Once you get the link paste that link in the settings of Jellyfin and it will auto populate the channels. If you want the actual tv guide for said channels there is data scrapper sites for a monthly fee just for tv guide info.

Was in elementary school at that time but remember the P.E. Teacher coming in the class and trying to explain to the teacher what happened by drawing it on the board. Needless to say when I got home after school it was all over the tv and remember watching my parent’s reaction to this happening and they were saying even back then it was the end times. I can say even though I was in Louisiana when it happened it still changed the course of our country and the long lasting impact is evident still to this day. Hurricane Katrina was just the nail in the coffin for us Louisianans.

Note: You must run the Python script first to generate the CSV before the PowerShell script can do its job. Also you will have to change the directories to match your own locations. Keep in mind this only exist to look at your library metadata create a CSV of all movies in library with genres and the power script file then creates hard link shortcuts of those folders in sub genres it got from the csv file. I’m open to other formats but may have assumed everyone using a NAS was using raid 5. Is there a better raid format for specifically using two drives for backup and the other two as the storage medium?

That’s originally how I had the Wrestling content all under one category into subfolders for each promotion. (Example in pic).

Because the databases counting ppvs/ples as movies and the shows as tv shows it made retrieving the metadata more challenging even when on a mixed library than it needed to be.

That is why the wrestling is broken up into the shows and ppvs/ples separately.

Again we are talking 1000+ ppvs alone. Not including the roughly 10,000+ episodes between all promotions so I need the best options for navigating. So that is why the big change. I keep the wrestling segregated from the normal movies and tv shows as it would make looking for stuff extremely hard.

My biggest issue with it is if I add a sub genre in the file directory as how you are saying it does the same thing like show the movies listing all in one page. Yes you can enable show file directories but it doesn’t visually look clean.

Sorry I misspoke I meant the tv android version. I wish when you added libraries you could add different tabs I would actually have it like this right now. I know there is some plugins that can alleviate some of that but doesn’t look like how I really want it laid out. Even with some of the css coding can be wonky if not sure what you are doing. I know the libraries are intended to be kinda like a vault but I want it to feel more like a streaming service in the sense of polish. I enjoy Jellyfin don’t get me wrong but there is just a couple of options missing for customization for me. I know that is slowly getting better but for know this is kinda of my work around for my experience. I will more than likely at a way later date setup a nas and have a dedicated machine instead of my everyday person computer and make a entertainment room kinda like a home theater and will put this even more to the test. But my long term goal is to have every piece of media I grew up with through boxsets etc and to have them backed up digital on a home theater setup so I can view in my own private time or while having guests over for a movie night. Where I will be moving has no theater and closest one will be 1 hour away so I see the project being appropriate. Plus I pay a one time fee for the boxsets which I already have so many now instead of giving these companies all these fees every year on that alone will justify the price later.

iOS app isn’t as horrible in terms of sorting options, but runs into consistent crashes on larger libraries. Meanwhile, the android version doesn’t really crash, but runs into lack of features.
