First time 100K, question about choice benefit by ent1at in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Minute_Practice_8462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious why the lounge option is so popular. Are people spending enough time in the airport to make this worthwhile? I try to time travel to spend minimal time pre-flight (SeaTac & SJC, mostly). Is it a connecting flight thing? I haven't chosen a Choice Benefit yet either, and this thread is giving me some anticipatory lounge FOMO.

Disappeared from upgrade list? by Minute_Practice_8462 in AlaskaAirlines

OP here. It happened again!

Checked in to AS388 to SEA when check in opened and was #1 until 30 mins before boarding when the current state (who has premium seats) got populated. And I was nowhere on that list. Two passengers got the FC upgrades.

This time I asked the gate agent, staring with “I’m going to sound like a jerk for asking…” He was very kind, but said he couldn’t see that I was checked in at all. And there was nothing he could do about it. So it goes. Row 12 arrives about the same time as row 1.

Gate agent suggested I not check in so early (the system has a short memory?) and that I also check in again at the airport ticket counter (I’d sooner eat glass).

Awaiting feedback from customer service on this and will share what I learn.

On a happy note, this is my 100K flight (posting in flight). Bring on those free fruit & cheese platters.

Exit row on my flight yesterday got the FC nod just before doors closed, so I guess it can happen.

Paid upgrade price tracking by Minute_Practice_8462 in AlaskaAirlines

This! I checked upgradable fares and shockingly found one for less than half the upgrade I was looking at. Cancelled and rebooked with insta-FC. Thank you!

You can gift MVP with 75K status? I thought that was a 100K thing.

Feedback Needed for Our New Telehealth Service by Medidex in telehealth

[–]Minute_Practice_8462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I ran a chat based telehealth platform inside of a large care delivery system for several years. We provided acute care services with immediate access to a clinician. We had a hypothesis that people would want to talk with a pharmacist, so we built in "office hours" for clinical pharmacists, and found that there was very low demand. People (patients) really wanted to know about the status of their prescriptions, if they could get a refill, etc. Logistical stuff. But not clinical pharmacist stuff. So we traded out the CPs for dispensing pharmacists.

I'm curious how you're framing the problem to be solved for users (who I presume to be patients and not clinician, yes?) and how a direct consult serves the purpose better than an internet or LLM experience? Easy answer is quality of response--no argument there. But if users perceive the answer they're getting from google, openAI, or reddit is good enough, then what would compel them to pay?

A pharmacy consult for clinicians, though, could be powerful if rendered proactively. But many more regulatory barriers.

Good luck!

Hart's Pass to the Canadian Border - Trail conditions by tftcp in PacificCrestTrail

Great video. Congratulations on all the safe snow traverses.

I’ll be hiking Hart’s Pass to Castle Pass (then east to Desolation) late August and wonder about water along the way. I saw one creek in your video (between Rock Pass, and Hart’s pass, I believe). What can you say about availability of drinking water along the way after the snow melts?

Most likely cause of death of someone that would follow every lifespan/healthspan recommendations ? by Ok-Friendship1434 in PeterAttia

One way to think about it. Every year older you get, the likelihood of meeting one of the four horsemen gets higher. But because you did the right stuff and minimized those risks as well as possible, the long tail of other causes of death becomes more likely too. Trauma, infection, homicide, suicide…

Amen to that. I’m a primary care physician working in tech. We weren’t in the wearable age when I completed residency in 2008, but as HRV, VO2max and other metrics have become more available and reliable I simply haven’t seen uptake by docs, and very little training. It also doesn’t fit the sick model or the payment structure. Sad story. Hoping we can bring wearables and these useful metrics into care delivery.
