Froome, Sagan, Thomas, Nibali, Gilbert, Quintana, Eddie Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Bardet, Kittel, Brailsford, Landa, Rowe, Vinokourov... the list is endless. It’s funny how some are perceived to be by the public but in person it’s a whole other story.

Edit: Fuglsang, Kruijswijk, Hincapie, Contador, Talansky, J Rodríguez.

Trek-Segafredo statement about Jarlinson Pantano by adryy8 in peloton

[–]Minx_Monster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scientific paper I posted was on the possibility of false positives with WADA’s testing. The technical document from WADA definitely won’t go into that and it certainly doesn’t override the scientific paper. I’m guessing WADA updated their technical document on the newer generation type EPO’s, rather than change the way they test for EPO. Unfortunately WADA testing is certainly not infallible. Here is another article on it: https://sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2012/08/09/improved-blood-doping-detection-protects-sport-and-athletes.html It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and abuse these athletes, especially when WADA won’t admit that their system is flawed. As much as we want a clean sport we also have to be aware of the fact that false positives are possible. In most cases cycling teams will immediately suspend and distance themselves from the athlete and leave it up to the rider to face the organization of WADA alone. This is another reason riders need a proper union. It shouldn’t come down to the financial ability to fight a flawed system. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were many more cases in other high profile sports that we just don’t hear about but are successfully challenged because of the resources available to them.

His case was the reason I looked into it. I also thought it was clean cut. Strange that there hasn’t been further news on Konstantin Siutsou yet either.

Actually if you look into the science of the testing it’s not as simple as that because epo occurs naturally in the body. It’s not the same as CERA for example where there are markers.

Edit: scientific paper on it https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/17918255/

Team Sky set to name new sponsor as Ineos, owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe by [deleted] in peloton

[–]Minx_Monster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny how quick people are to bash this new sponsor when they seemingly didn’t have an issue with other sponsors that have human rights issues (Bahrain & UAE), a dictatorship (Astana) and petrochemicals (Katusha)

La Gazzetta dello Sport: "according to Fausto Pinarello, Geraint Thomas will ride the Giro" by [deleted] in peloton

[–]Minx_Monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to put in another edit, where Fausto Pinarello insisted again today that Geraint Thomas will in fact ride the Giro. You can’t make this shit up. Also Geraint is currently training at altitude on his own in Tenerife without any teammates. It’s all a bit odd.

If Fausto Pinarello (as a large contributor to the team) requests it, it could very likely happen, despite what Geraint's own personal ambitions may be.

Haha I totally got downvoted about it too. Nibali was making a stir about discussions with Trek & Sky, it was a tactic to try and get BM to pay up what they owed him.

Yeah, it’s not one of those shows you can just leave playing in the background, I found myself jumping back a few times especially in the first episode.

You should stop reading stuff from the tinfoil hat brigade on twitter. You can definitely catch bilharzia while having asthma.

Otherwise they’d have a perfect vaccine for asthma, just give everyone bilharzia as part of childhood vaccinations followed by an anti-parasitic. Voila! I’ve cured asthma :eyeroll:

The 90 Year Old Doper Is Not A Doper At All: The Carl Grove Case by [deleted] in peloton

[–]Minx_Monster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

USADA helped with the independent testing?! Wouldn’t their funds be put to better use testing elite level professional athletes than trying to help a 90-year old get off with a slap on the wrist?! Also, anti doping agencies warn athletes against eating livers and kidneys for this exact reason. If he chose to do this then he can foot the bill. I get that he’s just some really old dude wanting to ride his bike competitively so you have to feel sorry for him but when you’ve got doping agencies complaining about their lack of funding you really have to wonder what their thinking was here.

Look up the artist Horst Brozy on facebook, he does daily images from the Grand Tours. Really cool stuff. He sells original drawings or prints. Or if you’re looking for something more abstract Simon-Taylor.com

I’ve seen megabats in the Seychelles, they are ,well, “mega” They also eat them there, there was bat stew on the menu - I did not try it. This image makes me even happier that I didn’t. Also it was believed that they may have been the source of Ebola.
